Question regarding the legality of so called "afk boosting"

Hi! Just want to start off by saying that I in no way shape or form support illegal activities or exploits in WoW. I’ve always stood by that the people who do that should be banned.

Yesterday, in group finder I talked with an individual who was reportedly offering “afk boost” where I give that person 200k in game gold (no real money), and then that person and their group would “afk boost” me where I just stand still and they level me up from 1-60 in 2hrs. Is this legal or not? I don’t want to get banned, and I don’t want to get scammed either.

Anyway, thanks in advance for your advice! I don’t need advice on how to spend my gold responsibly, that is my gold and my choice alone :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s allowed as long as it’s just gold you’re paying.

It’s basically done in brackenhide in the open world in most cases. You just park yourself there and they run around killing mobs.

i bought a 60-70 boost about 3 weeks ago, took about 10-15 min. stupid fast xD.

also never worried about being scammed tbh.

bought from one of the trade chat spammers.

only bought it for interest sake to see how fast it would be xD

Blizzard allows any in-game services, if it doesn’t involve real-money, so payment is made with gold. It includes any type of level boosting, M+ rating boosting, raid boosting and etc.

So no laws are broken its just a game,

terms and conditions allow degenerate behaviour and for those who don’t want to play the game to do what they want with gold. Gold is spent so drives token purchases $$$ I have and never will use boosting services.

That’s the whole purpose

Boosting exists one way or another in any popular MMORPG. So Blizzard decided not to fight windmills, but regulate it to some degree and have their cut selling tokens.

Not sure if i’m adding fuel to fire here, but care to elaborate what you mean by “degenerate behaviour”?

I’ve levelled from 1-50 on at least 6 characters, have a full time job and enjoy most of my time in wow playing end content, what is the problem then that I want to skip that levelling that I now find boring?

Tinybadger is my alt

i think he means degenerate behaviour because some players buy M+ boosts and expect others to accept them in their high keys.

thats the only reasoning i see from him without being rude.

But that’s not what degenerate means … it’s a horrible thing to call someone.

I miss the old days when people had a power leveler that would boost the levels of their friends.

One of the best content we have right now, why pay real money for a level 60 boost when you can chill with people doing it to 70 for in-game gold :sunglasses:

don’t care about the legality, care about the morality of celebrating something i didn’t earn.
you lose far more than you will ever gain.

No-one is telling you to. But the option is there for people who would rather pay gold (through buying tokens or not) to save themselves the time and effort of doing boring chores themselves.

If I had a character I needed to level, and I could afford to pay for a levelling boost, I certainly would because I find levelling so tedious. There’s nothing ‘degenerate’ about using a legitimate method to skip the boring aspects of the game and skip straight to the parts you enjoy.

I don’t think so, at least not in this context.

Ion has used the term “degenerate behaviour” and “degenerate gameplay” many times.

By that he means behaviour that was never intended by the devs - that is in direct opposition to the way the devs would like players to engage with the game - but that is encouraged by the incentives the game gives players.

And that describes the for-gold boosting scene very well. It’s “legal”. The devs don’t want people to skip levelling, but the game gives incentives to players to provide the service, and it gives the incentive to some people to buy that service.

thats deep bro, luckily it’s just a game

What if I use my in-game made gold?
I do use sometimes boosting, but only for leveling, and mostly 40-50 levels, is it morally okay to pay for boost with gold I made in-game?
There is nothing to celebrate too, because the game basically start way ahead of just level 70, mind you, you will be level 70 with your gear from level 1 or whatever you got before boosting.

Are you certain about that? If they didn’t want people to skip levelling, surely they wouldn’t sell character boosts.

only to stop third-party sellers.

noooooo come back

Fair point! :+1:

This boost has been available for a long time, as far as I know. These boosts help them earn more money because people buy tokens. If blizz didn’t like this boost in the game, it would have been nerfed long time ago. So, don’t be naive. Also, modern leveling has nothing to celebrate, my new paladin is level 68 (started yesterday at lvl10), so there is nothing special tbh
