Questions about Earthen

So… I’m doing my best to lvl up so I can unlock Earthen. While doing so I can’t seem to find answers to some questions. I don’t know if anyone else can, but feel free to share your thoughts

Since they are created by the Titans, does that mean there can be no more Earthen than there is?

About the memory stones, I get you save them in the archive to be able to access some memories from earlier cycles, but when an Earthen is “awakend” are their memories restored or are they like a new person but with the same body? (the whole thing gives me the 100 vibes)

The unbound seem to have developed a spectrum of feelings, but I assume they don’t feel physical feelings since they’re stone? Can they burn? Freeze? Some poison can be lethal, but it seems easy for them to be op no?

From what I’ve learnt so far;

The machine automatically made new earthern and pumped them out with randomization. From there you kinda choose who you want to be. For others who went in to ‘recharge’ it leads into your second question;

The Earthern that went in to recharge are able to regain their memory stones and put it back in themselves like a sim card. They just reboot that body and the soul is tied mostly to that gem like a soulshard.

Atleast that’s my interpretation of it.

This is more of a 2 parter.

So all Earthen now are technically unbound some of them want to freely choose to keep to the Edicts and that’s accepted by the others but yes, they’re technically developing emotional attachments.

Second; I don’t think they can be poisoned but I do think they are able to register ‘pain’ be it in some form of “System damage” due to the arm being frozen or melted for example.

So it’s a toss up really and left to player decision I guess.

They are feeling emotional connection though like the one at the intro where they talk about how they knew him and will honor him.

They do not eat food, so they don’t have ‘biological’ needs in the sense a human or dwarf or whatever does but they are ‘alive’, they are living stone.
They have the same senses as fleshy races as they can detect sight, sound, smell and (possibly?) taste (they eat rocks and they can taste those).

They can tire, or fatigue through too much activity, they require maintenance and repair (they do sleep). They’re very much living stone automatons.

Much like dwarves in permanent stoneform though they probably don’t bleed, get afflicted by poisons or disease. They might spring leaks if damaged enough, I’m assuming that those limbs require some form of lubricant to move, oil or such.

Thank you for your replies, I got a better feel for how they work  We also know light can heal them even though they’re stone since Moira could heal injured Earthen, so I guess magic work on them. I wonder what would happen if they lost a stone finger though, glue it back? :joy:

Magic works as magic works on all races yes.

I think as long as there is no catastrophic damage to the control module (the head) they can theoretically repair damage. The Forsaken can do this too of course as well, reattach limbs or get new ones.

The Awakening Machine seem to direct us to the idea that there are no further Earthen in production, and they are now on a rotating maintenance mode, though some have chosen to go dormant instead of returning to the machine to be “reset” for future activation.

You, as the new player Earthen, get deployed from the Awakening Machine with the choice of claiming that you have been “reset” for future duties, or set out for your own adventures.

Their memory stones are originally not returned into the original Earthen before Magni’s cleasing. After Magni’s cleansing, the Earthen are given their own choice to recall or reset, to pick up a duty, or journey out on their own.

The Unbound are the group of Earthen who does not follow their original directive/duties granted to their construct period. You, as the player, are primarily considered to be an Unbound - though, you can RP that you are part of the directive still - something that the ones who were awake before the Awakening Machine’s corruption and cleansing, still have to deal with.

They seemingly can feel, but it takes more intensity to feel it, so, we’re not going to say Wintersgrasp cold is bad, but if a Frost Mage blasts you, you will feel that to the structure of your being, as the Earthen are designed to take their being into account in hazard calculations. The same with heat. Taking a stroll through the Burning Steppes would be nothing to an Earthen, but there would be painful sensations in crossing a lava-flow, or crossing the path of a Fire Mage - or Dragon.

Poisons, are not generally going to be seen as an issue to the Earthen, but corruptions are a big threat, as are nature and decay.

With the story of Light getting another tier in Dragonflight, we can come to the expectation that it can translate into other means of creatures as we now have races able to see the ‘Light’ as Fire, a Force, a Wild God, a Celestial Being, and as a Titan source.

That finger, would most likely, be able to be reattached with some sort of Earthen maintenance glue, or the likes - as mentioned, like the Forsaken, being able to have their limbs reattached by needle and thread, or have a new one.

Thank you Lochton!
I feel I have a better grasp of the Earthen now, look forward to make one :slightly_smiling_face:

One thing I thought I’d mention is that there are Earthen Geomenders which you can see tending to wounded Earthen, so that may be one of the ways they can fix each other. A cool role for an Earthen shaman  They also have their awesome hot spring pools which you can see on the Isle and in Gundargaz where they rest and recuperate.

This; and there are notes of the baths imparting mineral soothing/ stress relief (mineral baths for their rocky bodies), imparting the mineral dense waters to their weathered forms. As well, along with the mention of mending of cracks using underclay. Mixture of clay and agitated cinderhoney :muscle: A sort of glue for cracks!

So there be plenty of opportunities when getting hurt and mending these rocky folks with some engaging RP :sparkles:

Going to add additional note on that of restoration of their bodies.

Apparently, the Awakening Machine will run a restoration process on the Earthen when they are in storage, thus, you would not have any direct scarring or markings once released from the Machine’s chambers.

So, smooth polished marble once you are out, time to make some cracks to tell new stories with!

We shine brightly, like diamonds :gem: :sparkles:
For sure! The machine provides!

Nah but the world building for earthern has been fun to see! Way more thought and care has gone into their culture, themes and story than I had guessed at the expac reveal.

Will be fun to finally dip my toes into the RP here, rock and stone :muscle:

I truly am amazed at the level of work put into the Earthen race, considering that they are just another Allied Race. Still not over the top, but they had WAY WAY WAY more supplied than any of the other Allied Races.

And the gift of granting starter gear that can be used by other Dwarven races, now, that was a glorious detail to add.
