Greetings, i keep seeing these trade offers in trade chat etc ingame but im wondering about the legality of it all?
Lets say a player on the classic server i play on nowadays has 30 000 gold that he wants to trade for gold on lets say a classic Wotlk server.
If i bought a token and sold it on the server he wants this gold on and trade him the gold there and he trades me the gold on the “vanilla” classic server.
Is this really ok? would love an answer from a GM or the like, ive seen so many different answers and most of em are a few years old aswell.
(and yes i am fully aware of the shady nature a trade with a random person youve never met before, im just asking around this scenario so to say)
Cheers!

Blizzard have a policy of never answering “Is it legal” questions. The most they will say is “If you feel you have to ask, then maybe you need to reconsider doing it.”
Also, there are no GM’s on the forums anyway. The Blues are Community Managers, not GM’s. If you want an answer from a GM, you will need to ask via ticket.

It’s technically allowed. However if you trade the gold and he scams you. Blizzard won’t get you the gold back. They do ban people for scamming though but never return items to the orginal player.
As long as real life money(excluding real life money being used on bnet in legit ways) or real life items/tasks aren’t involved. it’s allowed.
What’s not allowed is “If you buy me Cyberpunk on steam I’ll give you 500k gold”
There is one bnet action I know is forbidden. Selling the BOP mounts/pets(or games on bnet) for gold. However the Wow token is a completely different story as your trading the gold within the game limits.

Thanks to both of you, i am very rarely in here on the forums so i dont really know how things goes etc
And thanks both of u for the answers, they painted a understandable picture.
I have very limited funds to buy those tokens with myself, but stuff like this when i see questions/offers etc around the chats ingame, my brain just refuses to let go of it til i get a complete picture of the subject hehe
And yes, i really cant come up with a good idea to avoid being scammed in trades like these either, but anyhow, its kinda allowed and ill settle with that, now i can put my brain back in the box again so i get some peace ‘n’ quiet hehe

Actually, that’s not quite true, you cannot trade anything outside the game for ingame stuff, so you can’t say I’ll trade you Final Fantasy Online currency for Warcraft currency.
I have traded Retail/Wrath gold for SoD gold and if you go to the right place you probably won’t get scammed, I can’t mention it as people sell gold for real money on there too.
as far as i know blizzard have clearly stated that trading gold between games aint allowed even though the games are from the same devs.
this was from when D3 was released and aperently something bad happened back then which is why they made this decision.
