Blizzard needs no money out of advertisements.
Step 1 : fire activision blizzard’s ceo who earns 155 M $ per year and find a new ceo who can work 1 M $ a year.
Step 2: use 154 M $ to make warcraft free for the next 50 years.
Step 3: even if kids don’t start to Wow, maybe you lure old players.
I also did LFR on sunday. Popped within 5 mins or so and everytime I finished a wing, the next queue would instantly pop. 
Or just retain a subscriber, Nd dont allow the gsme to fall to absolute shambles. Because the moderation to leep bots / hackers / spam accounts would become a company cost alone.

Blizzard do need money. Asking a company to run itself into the bare minimum will affect the quality of whst rhe company use. Aswell as the skillsets of their team.

They use the games “profit” to pay workers, bonus schemes and then to develope projects.
If every game only took whst it needed for that game to survive. Companies would never build new games lol. Because they couldnt.
Undeveloped games cant bring money in, wo they use the additional incomes from pther games to fund those.
Ceo of nintendo earns 2m $ per year, do you know how much 154 m $ / year means ? You can create real army and start invading countries with that amount.

Blizzard couldnt resist selling gold in a sub based game let alone a f2p, we have exsmples already existing of blizzards f2p models, in games which cost far less yesr to develope
you can hire 30 000 people to queue up on WoW and to play with 154 M $ a year.

Keep the sub based model, dont change the moneitization of the game
Fire the ceo, reduce the yearly income to 50million, take that 100million and pour it directly into the dev team.
If they put 50 more people into blizzard development and added a 50 million to the games yearly budget.
I assure u the results would be 10x better then any other option on the table.
If even just WoW expansions had even 10 million added to its pools the results would suprise you.
But thats the real issue. U talk about bringing players to the game, and the sub needs to go to manage it, but ffxiv continously proves that theory incorrect.
The issue is the game no longer tries to release a mass of content like ffxiv does.
