Char transfer. I was hoping this would be 50%.
Personally I don’t believe that anyone who can come up with some of the marketing practices that Acti-Blizz do that they could overlook the fact that they would make more money if they reduced the price as more people could afford to do it and would do it.
Maybe then, just maybe, that this time they actually mean it when they say that they want character choice to be a big decision on the part of the player and that being able to change race, faction, name etc. at the drop of the hat would go against that policy.
Nobody needs to utilise these services, especially given how ridiculously easy it is to level up a character and then gear them once they hit 120 is at the moment. They are entirely optional and cosmetic.
By the way this is not meant to condone the prices (I have at least one character stuck on a server where I don’t want them thanks to a guild transfer) but I do think that they are set deliberately high and not just for greed purposes.
Wow how come you’re not working for Blizzard already? You make it look so easy
Not sure you’re being serious here.
You actually want a €5 fee to be added on top of subscription, because that is what would happen should they make race such a meta thing.
Yes, we deffo need more store money bought things - on top of the sub
It wasn’t an AddOn - it was, what could in other games’ perspective described, a hack.
Yes, yes, people would use it to make their tiddies bigger and perhaps add something more down below, but it could also be used to exploit the game.
I remember back then, you could replace the Netherwing eggs with Ragnaros’ model to make them more visible, or even change the Gurubashi arena by adding a tunnel leading below the ground, allowing you to loot the chest without engaging anyone
Obviously, Blizzard changed how the game handles the files for many different reasons, but that resulted in the mods to be much more sophisticated and more resembling hacks, than innocent character appearance altering mods.
And by seeing some players’ creations, I’m glad there’s not THAT much freedom when it comes to player appearance. You can play Second Life if you dig these monstrosities, keep them off from WoW
Because it’s a nice opportunity to sell old junk while making heap of cash?
Because the gross consumerism that is prevalent in the US has now spread worldwide. Because some people are stupid and they see a 50% off sign on something but don’t realise that the price has been increased by 55% only a month or so before.
Sorry slightly off topic there but we had a report in the UK yesterday that only 1 in 20 Black Friday deals is actually a deal…
Interesting.
Where I come from, they deduct the sale price off the product’s initial release price.
Say something would come to market at €100 and over the time, its price would get down to €80.
BLACK FRIDAY comes, and the product is now at €70 - with the store claiming 30% discount.
While it’s still a discount to some degree, it’s not that big as they claim - should they list the actual discount, it would be equal to these random sales throughout the year or perhaps what you get for some loyalty points and whatnot.
There was a Which? survey last year tracking the prices of goods for 6 months before and after Black Friday and they noted that 87% of the goods on their track list were cheaper at other times of the year.
This is the UK though so may not be the case where consumer rights are more heavily protected.
Yes I am serious Ask the competitive raiders if they would do this.
Adding €5 fee on top might make the subscriptions un-affordable to with bad exchange rates players. Remember people from all over the world play this game and that brings in foreign exchanges issues. To you it’s 5 EURO to me it’s 80 ZAR, to a guy in Russia it’s 350 RUB and to a guy in India its 390 INR.
A sub is mandatory if you want to play the game at top level. Keeping that sub affordable so more people can play is good for business. The store stuff is optional and you can buy it if you can afford it. If you lower the price more people would be able to afford it.
Hack or AddOn does it matter? There is clearly some people out there that would like to be able to do this. If you don’t want “monstrosities” in the game you can limit the amount of customization or limit it to RP servers. But I don’t think a few scars, tattoos, rings, necklaces or even a pregnant bump for the girls in Stormwind that have pregnant in their RP profiles is going to “RUINE THE GAME” or “BREAK THE LORE” God forbid.
Well it might not be old junk… Oh wait a minute it has been around for quite bit and has not changed much except for the Character Boosts. So yes maybe we want to buy some “old junk” for lower prices.
Stopped reading there, you’re talking out of your rear.
Really? You try and play a level 120 character without a sub or game-time. If you want to play a 120 character a sub/game-time is mandatory. Participation ribbon for you.
I would probably do a realm transfer or race change if there were some discounts, but whatever I better spend some money on Steam.
Looking at the black friday sales, I’ll have to say it’s quite the pathetic lineup.
Most of these are 15% off and not a single service at reduced price.
Sorry I don’t buy it. If the intention is to avoid race/faction/server hopping just put a fat CD (6 months? Even 1 year?) on each character per action and there you avoid any exploit
Black Friday is a lie anyway… Most shops increase prices by 5-15% some time before it happens and then make a sale worth of 5% (-20% wooohoo!). Blizzard cant do that because we will immediately notice
And yet every ounce of common sense would suggest that if they reduced the price they would sell more and thus make more profit.
I don’t think they really want anyone to do this ever so implementing a CD wouldn’t work. What they have done is priced it outrageously so that only those who really really want it will stump up the cash to do it.
At least that is my opinion on the outrageous fees.
This doesn’t make sense. Then the option would not exist in the first place
Personally I think that it is a feature because it is something that the player base have been demanding since pretty much day 1. So rather than a blank “no you’re not going to get it” they have decided to implement an “if you really want it you’re going to have to pay through the nose for it”.
It makes as much sense as pricing it so high that the majority of the player base are going to go meh, I’ll just go an level another character.
And yet they’ve increased it instead
I’m sure everyone remembers but in case you don’t:
https://eu.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/17615085726#1
That doesn’t mean that if they reduced the price they wouldn’t get a better uptake in use.
At the end of the day I know I won’t be taking them up on any of these services other than the very odd token when I create a completely new character.
Or it’s like you said yourself - they don’t want people to constantly change whatever that’s paid by cash? But if they really really REALLY want to, why block them with a cooldown, just jack the price up instead to make more money, right?
In fact, you reminded me of some old old interview where they explained it and the reason was basically that, but I couldn’t find it - not sure whether it was at Blizzcon or some fansite, or random twitter post.
So yeah, maybe you’re right, they would make more money if people could just race or even class change at very little cost, all these things would quickly lose their weight or the sense of commitment, or however you’d put it.
Honestly, I don’t really see why they would care if someone race changes.
It’s not like you are cheating or getting any major unfair advantage out of it. It is mainly cosmetics. Only at very high end competitive gameplay you may possibly have that 1% boost that you need. But how many players are we talking about here over the majority of the players? And those pro-players are not hindered by the price anyway. If they feel they need to race change to reach their goal they will pay no matter what.
The most affected players are the casual players.
So the commitment thing doesn’t really fly. I could possibly understand it if we talked about faction change. But race change? Really?
