At the moment it is more expensive than buying BfA expansion. Isn’t this utterly ridiculous? And of course AGAIN no black friday discount on services.
I really wonder if they are getting these things straight at Blizzard financial headquarters.
Since when overcharging for something is good marcketing? How many more transactions would they have if they were cheaper?
Some big brain at blizz probably did the math and figured it’s more profitable this way.
I mean these topics pop up every now and then ever since, always the same “imagine what would they make if it was cheaper!”
I say nah, especially with the many allied races or cutting edge players and tryhards swapping to whatever has the best racial for a certain situation.
With those firings a few months ago, they forgot the marketing department. They always do a crappy job.
Then again bleeding people dry/nickel and dime is right up Bobby Kotick’s sleeve. So maybe they are the only ones doing a great job in the CEO’s eye. :>
Those prices are ridiculously high. Even more so since they upped them few years ago. It’s pure greed, nothing more. These prices should be at least 50% cheaper.
This is called GREED, this is virtual service, there is not even human factor needed, yet they will keep the prices because they know people need and will use this feature so they will have to pay the full price. Those services doesn’t cost Blizzard anything, and imo they all should be put at 5 euro per service max (faction change, race change, realm transfer).
I pretty much need all of their services at the current moment, but financial situation prevents me from taking unwise decisions. I would definetely buy a 5 character bundle faction change for the price of one if that’s something they would do once every five years.
Commonsense is what I have. If services where cheaper you would selling a lot more of them because more people would make use of them more often. Your friends that buy a race change every 2 or 3 months might buy one every month or even more frequently. More character boosts would sell for people wanting to level alts. Race changes would sell more often to competitive guild raiders that would like to change their racials to compliment their gear stats and trinket abilities. If those race changes were cheaper they could experiment with different racecials to find the best match for their current gear. Icy-Veins would also include the racials of different races and how it would affect your rotation.
What they need to do to make more money is is to make more services available. Services like Class Changes and a bunch of services for the RP community on customizing their characters like custom tattoos, scars or jewelry.
An addon (not sure what is was called) that allowed you to modify the look of your character was recently banned. The modifications made by the addon was only visible to the player self and not to anyone else but still the RP people used it. Professional actors call it “character immersion”. Basically you become the character you are playing in and a few cosmetics helps them to do that. Imagine how many RP people would make use of such a service if they could sport a “I LOVE MY MOM” tattoo, a few scars, some sort of pendant around their neck and a couple of rings on their fingers. It just needs to be affordable. Maybe a raid leader with “THIS WAY IDIOTS” tattooed on his back.
Why do you think BLACK FRIDAY is such a big deal world wide? When people get stuff at reduced prices, more people buy items and they buy more of an item even if they do not need it. People find it hard to walk past a SALE sign and not buy something.
As far as for “they have the numbers”, those numbers are past sales it tells you nothing about how those sales might change if you lower the prices. The only way to tell that is to give people a “surprise special” say 50% off for one week. Then you compare the sales from the “special” week to the previous say 10 weeks and look at the trend. You don’t tell them in advance you just lower the prices one random day for the next 7 days and see what happens. The news will spread normally via word of mouth, the toxic website (sorry I mean the forums…), Wowhead, Icy-Veins, etc, etc, etc. Now you will get a rush for that week, but you can be sure 20%-30% of the people in that rush would make use of those services again and on a more frequent basis. If 20%-30% of that week’s sales is more than your previous 10 weeks weekly sales it would be more profitable to drop the prices.
It’s ridiculous even when it’s not cheaper than the expansion (especially the lvl boost that always costs 15$ more than the expansion itself). Actually, i think this is the point where greed backfires on them. I saw tons of people not spending money on them because of the ridiculous prices. I’m willing to bet that they would make a lot more money out of those services if they would lower their prices. Especially server transfer, since they still refuse to do something about dead realms other than saying “yeah we hear you” every few months.
