Race change should be an option in barber's shop

We are going into direction that all classes will be available for all races. So, it will be really no trouble to add this option in Barber’s shop eventually?

Blizzard, can you finally give us this option?

Some restrictions should follow like:
Faction only race change, if you are alliance, only into alliance races you can race change, same for other one faction.

That’s all.

I personally would love this option, however I see it not happening cause I imagine (don’t have data on it, let me know) that race change is one off the most purchased changes.

But like I said I agree and would love to see it seeing as it really makes no difference once all classes are given to all races.

I think it involves too much to be a simple barber swap as there are racials.

I wish I could recognise a character if I see it many times.

Like IRL. You can cut your hair, nails, etc. but having facial reconstruction surgery should have a long CD and race and gender change is completely off the table. Even paid.

If we have the game “respect the time of the player instead of the character”, as promised in TWW, I see no reason to allow this. Just make a new character, it’ll have your stuff for the most part.

But of course all of this is moot until they restore the MMO - that is the open world environment where you have a “small” (around 20k people) community you keep meeting. Like AD, but for everybody.

Race swap is a revenue for Blizz, doubt it’ll ever be made freely available ingame.

Plus I believe it’s a little be more technical requiring you to be out of the game for it to adjust server side stuff for that character.

Didn’t stop them from making gender change a feature in the barber shop, there is still hope

Gender has literally zero impact on your character’s progress to what it’s done since it was created.

Racial Swap would mean different starting zones, quests not attainable by other races, etc. … all stuff that might add or remove quest and scenario flaggings to what the swapped race might reflect on server side.

Hence me saying “technical stuff” server side.

Was never a billable option to start off with. Race change is a billable service and I doubt they will ever make that available for free in game. Why would they when they earn cash on it and have been for years.

You had to buy a service to change gender in the past.

In all the 15 years I have been playing I can not recall ever seeing this as a billable option in the store. I remember race changes and faction changes only and/ or name change and even realm change.

Yeah it was here, can’t officially put link but I’ll cut it up so just get rid of the blank between https and .com

It only officially changed in shadowlands

Gender change was either part of the race change service or some special character “skin change”. I’m pretty sure in the old days you couldn’t even change stuff like horns at the barber.

Race change is still billable because of $$$ and because virtue signaling has been achieved by letting you swap your body type.

I wouldn’t want it, nor do I want the option to change gender at the barber. But it is what it is.

It destroys the immersion, and allowing you to change your race left and right is just weird. It doesn’t take long to create a new character and level it to max level.

Well although it can be done in a near day of playtime, some of us don’t really have that much time, some really just have those 2-3 hours and if we divide lets say 20 hours of lvling (pretty decent speed) that’s atleast around a week to have another character of just a different race, some would say that race changing or gender swapping is a small price to pay.

Not to mention immersion is something that the game can help with but ultimately it’s up to you to immerse yourself, like if you don’t want to switch anything then cool but giving others the option doesn’t/ shouldn’t affect you.

Bro, there are games like lineage2 in which you can change your class since 2004. You create char once, get its skin, and after maxing out one clas you can add 3 different ones.

Would love subclass system like this in wow.

So, which is it? Recognize a character, or “Meh, just roll a new one if you don’t like the look of your current one”?

I agree that race-changes and appearance changes beyond hairstyle/colour should have some sort of cost and/or cooldown, not wanting to ditch a character with years of history is one thing, but race-changes shouldn’t be too easy.

As for “Server community”, that ship has sailed years ago, and isn’t something that can be feasibly reversed.

Both? I don’t understand the conflict between these two things. That’s how the game was to begin with, but the barrier to switching was extremely high. Now it’s been lowered a bit, but it’s still there I mean…

Reversed in the sense of forcing it on everybody, definitely not. But it can be a thing that exists. We have it on RP realms and it’s actually working okay, but that’s an RP realm. I think there’s a hunger for a realm like AD but not RP, and maybe even further restricted still.

Anyway, a bit off topic. You’re right that little about our character’s persistent identities matter if they can’t fix that.

Yeah that’s something we’ll never get back

Well yeah but alts have always existed, so the only way you get this is if everyone only ever played one character and never changed anything.

No. You get it anyway even if someone has 2-4 characters. I’ve experienced this a hundred times and it was one of the core design goals of the original game. That’s why it didn’t have a barbershop to begin with.

Well yes, and although the original aspects of the game are important, it is still a positive when we get updates/new features that improve the game as a whole, it’s up to the players to not abuse it to the point where the core aspects are no longer present.

In this case it’s the players that ruin this aspect of the game not the possibilities given to them, it’s up to the player to use it in their best interest like, not abusing it, but we did and now we are where we are.

TLDR; That’s fine that you like that aspect of the game but we shouldn’t be denied features because of an aspect that the players killed long ago.
