Will we ever get race-class specific customizations and class names?
As in:
Playername, Human Paladin
and
Playername, Tauren Sunwalker (Paladin)
Playername, Blood Elf Bloodknight (Paladin)
Playername, Blood Elf Farstrider (Hunter)
Playername, Night Elf Sentinel (Warrior)
etc.
And things like:
- Night Elf Priests having silver holy spells instead of yellow (as it is in official lore)
- A ‘light’ version of shadow priests for races such as Draenei/Lightforged and a ‘dark’ version of holy priests for races such as Forsaken/Void Elf - this could be a simple recolouring of spells, or name changes and icon changes (we already have holy spells that can harm and shadow spells that can heal)
- Unique spell names and/or icons for Troll and Tauren Paladins, so they’re more like their actual fantasy classes and less like your standard Human light knights
It would go a long way to legitimizing certain class/race combitionations, improve fantasy and RP aspect, help smooth over certain lore breakers, and just generally give us help in getting immersed in our characters.
They slapped a bit of gold paint and a blonde wig on Draenei and called them Lightforged. This could have been a class customization for Draenei Paladins.
I think this would be better, more apprechiated, and more desired by the community than anymore allied races.
This would also probably allow more races to be more classes, as their race/class combo can be more easily justified if what we consider to be a class becomes a ‘playstyle’ instead - as in they become purely mechnical, and the actual class name are unique to the race
For example, if you tweak the appearance of holy spells and make them shadow looking? … Now we can have Night Elf, Void Elf and Forsaken Paladins (Night Warriors, Voidknights and Death Guard).
What it means to be a ‘paladin’ in terms of gameplay is simplified - it’s just a warrior that also uses spells to heal, protect and buff. Blizzard has already taken steps toward simplifying what it means to be a paladin by implimenting Zanadalri and Tauren Paladins. But now what it means to be your particular class in fantasy/roleplay is amplified. Both Human Paladins and Tauren Sunwalkers benefit from this, because by not sharing a class title they both become more distinct.
Extend class fantasy, make our characters more iconic, and more people will love their characters. I think this would be as important as transmog.
