Racials are the original covenants - Remove them

Yep. People just want to make the game easy for themselves. But don’t realise that by doing this, they’re asking Blizzard to cut out half of the game for everyone else.

His request has a some very simple solutions:

  1. Sacrifice Rating for Cosmetic Choices.
  2. If someone is telling him he has to play a certain spec/class/race, then find someone else to play with.

It’s best that they just realise what kind of Game World of Warcraft actually is, and then decide whether its the right game for them or not.

I got into wow my friend. He picked worgen hunter, cos he liked how it’s looked ect. Then he did start arenas and found out it’s probably the worst race for PvP hunter. I haven’t seen him since playing wow. And no he won’t pay for race change as that’s the reason why racials are here.

Instead of simply not engaging with these aspects they dislike apparently it is the go-to thing now to stamp your feet and demand their removal like children having a tantrum. All I can say, if it isn’t a troll, is they should grow up.

Racials is the flavor of WoW for me!
It adds that little extra and i love it.
We don’t need to remove them they don’t affect the game as much the op says.

To some extent I appreciate that they are just looking for a PVP or Dungeon Style game to play. Blizzard have done well to develop these aspects of the game over recent years. But it has done so at the expense of the rest of the game.

I think we have reached a breaking point. Blizzard needs to focus on lifting the game up as a whole, and selling World of Warcraft as the Game it actually is.

The future looks bright though. There have been interviews with Microsoft suggesting they want to make Warcraft as epic as it once was.

I don’t really know what your goal is, but we play an mmorpg here not an esports game where everything is 100% balanced. Even when taking this (racials, gear, covenants) away the game still wouldn’t be close to esports ready until every class does exactly the same.

This is pretty much it.
If you get rid of racials, because you feel not as good as with another racial, you should be consistent and start demanding to get rid of ilvl and covenants and everything that gives an advantage to someone.
I call it double standards from you, because you don’t want equality, you want a personal advantage, that hurts the game for the majority while ignoring the other things that give huge advantages.

As someone said in this thread, I think it was the gnome guy with the great name:
WoW already suffered from being designed around the 1% players and not the majority. The world first ones, the mdi and esports arena people, not us who play for fun, who try to play all parts of the game.

  • This is about freedom and not balance.
  • I chose a night elf rogue in 2004 final beta. I still play it. The racial got good for the content I do. I really, personally, don’t gain much by them being removed/altered.
  • You can’t compare gear and racials because you can easily change gear while you can’t easily change race. I won’t engage in such 1head arguments.
  • The player demographic evolves which implies a changing demand on the game and its design. That’s the root of feedback threads like this and that’s actually a good thing.
  • Removing/Altering racials doesn’t make the game easier.

Change is inevitable.

(I can send you a link but I first have to search it.)

Edit: Also I don’t play an extreme point of it. I play one of the main modes of the game.
Edit: The reason I mentioned the article about player identity is because a player has an identity which he carries from game to game. Let them do that. Adding stuff like racials, that add unnecessary friction, prevents them from doing so resp. gives a bad after taste. They can’t be that great hero, because, well, their racials sucks. Also read the other articles on Playable Worlds News site (the ones about game design), they are quit good.
