Raid bots says 10% up, sim yields 0.1% dps

Hello,

As of this expansion I decided to start simming my gear (never late to jump the bandwagon) by using simc ADDON alongside raidbots website.

What confuses me is that often on gear ingame it will say something along the lines “raidbots: 10% upgrade”, but when I actually to “gear compare”, difference will be like 0.2%.

Can someone explain me this? I am simply trying to understand how the system works.

I am aware that all of it is not 100% anyway and mostly for Patchwerk fight style, but still, why does it say 10% upgrade, but then it yields same dps?

I also know I should be doing stat weights, but still, my original question stands.

Thanks,
Imm

When you re-enter the new value for stats in pawn after doing a Stat Weight sim on raidbots, some items will say that its better because it has more of the better stats, if you equip it, the value for those stats lowers, and increases the ones you had on before.

Hope this helps

EDIT
The sim that shows the best gear you got in your bags/equipped should be final, don’t worry if a cloak says +3% RAIDBOTS

Thanks Anween, but I am still not 100%.

Are you saying I should ignore “raidbots: 10% upgrade” which I see in inventory, but rely only on “gear compare”?

Btw if you know, will gear compare take into the account traits? If it doesn’t, it is useless, as traits make huge difference.

Thanks,
Imm

It could be that the 10% upgrade is based on 1 item vs another, whereas the 0.2% is an overall value for your character.
Bear in mind, stats scale as they get higher and diminish the value. You’ll need to research as Blizzard are not transparent on this.
So, where your addon in game may say an item is 10%, it may effectively be less due to other gears/stats. This again, will affect your overall increase.

The item upgrade that appears on items is only a guideline. It also relies on you regularly simming (every time you get new item or change) for your stat weights and putting that string into pawn. Some people have more than one set of data set up depending on whether they are looking at AoE or single target fights.

The actual sim will show how much of an upgrade the item actually is. It can feel very confusing to start with.

The upgrades are relative to the item you are currently using not to your current simmed dps.

The item is 10% boost over you other item >>(cloak like 370 with another cloak of 380 )
The 0.2% boost if overall boost from that item >>

It’s quite easy to catch>

Even without any additional scaling added by Blizzard, some scaling is just basic maths. Going from 20% to 21% crit is only a (1.21/1.20)*100% dps increase for example.

Don’t take sims too literally.

Sims are only as good as their creator
They dont take a proper raid into account. There’s too many variables that affect your performance, in particular your team mates.

Best way: try it in an encounter.

Blizzard have been very open with they calculations used for combat rating. You’ll find them on proper theory crafting sties not guide that tell you to sim.

Apologies if I was wrong. Can you point me to where it shows the values for diminishing returns on stats? I’d like to check them out please.
Thanks.

It’s harder these days to find this stuff since not many people do proper theory crafting these days. I miss elitist jerks. Also with the use of discord it’s not all on websites.

But here’s one for tanking. The mathematics basically the same with different number. It should give you an idea.

You wont want to calculate this stuff yourself as there’s so many modifiers anyway.

Thanks. I’ll see if there’s anything of interest at Mr R.

I got tired of simming stat weighs after every new piece of gear so I simply use “Top Gear” on the raidbots webpage, check in the things I want to sim (not so much since I don’t have the premium option) and then I just go from there. Why sit and sim stat weighs multiple times and switch items back and forth and then re-sim again when you can sim your top gear right away?

This is the first expansion I paid for premium because I have to sim that much.

I only to gear comparisons and make sure my traits are adequate for the content im doing, talents and traits on gear mean just as much as stats do so it might be one of those lesser evils which makes it that much bigger of an upgrade!
