Raiding Elden Ring

Today, I’ve been thinking raiding in wow is a bit like killing bosses Dark Souls game (and Elden Ring is the last instance of that kind of game).

So, why do I enjoy raiding when I can’t stand killing boss gameplay in Elden Ring ?

In both cases, the gameplay revolve around learning the bosses routine and play with them. Yet, it feels bad to me in Elden Ring when it feels amazing when raiding. Why ? Any idea, guys ?

I didn’t play Elden Ring, but you play it alone right?
Perhaps then because raiding is a team effort and it makes you feel more powerful , I guess.

Because in wow you have 19-29 other people WHO can pick up your slack and ensure that 1 mistake doesnt mean instant death to whole RAID. Its also why so few people RAID mythic because you can do very few mistakes in mythic compared to faling all the time in normal .

Want example ? Im Beyond horrible while playing my Frost mage. Like really really bad. Still IT was last tier 251 itlv and done 17-18s . Why ? Because other 2 dps in groups were able to do enough DMG to offset my Badness. Same thing happens in RAIDs . People with Grey logs are like 10/10 m . Why ? Because other 19 people were able to carry then

I don’t think it’s related to difficulty. It’s more related to the fact that in WoW, there are 19-29 other people with you and if they are behaving like friends, enjoying the game instead of hunting for loot, it can be really super fun, even (especially) if you wipe (for a stupid but funny reason).

Raiding in wow can also be trash if you’re with blind and greedy people who are only there for the loot.

  • greedy because… should I really explain that ?
  • blind because hunting for hours every week for loot that will be reset next patch is complete madness if loot is your only motive.

Not sure if this has anything to do with your enjoyment, but I think the boss fights in the souls games are a lot more reactive than the WoW fights that are way more scripted.

That’s one of the reasons I prefer them over wow boss fights honestly. For most wow bosses you know exactly what ability is going to happen when and you can plan accordingly. You often know in advance that at 0:40 you want to be in this position.

Souls bossfights have certain patterns aswell. And most of those require you to react in a certain way aswell. But unlike WoW these are more or less random in when they happen and you have to adjust accordingly.

Maybe. There’s also the fact that souls boss fights are usually more punitive in a more frustrating way.
Typical thing that can happen : you missed a dodge, so you got hit, you character fell on the ground and now takes a full 5 seconds to stand up again. But the boss is still there and don’t want to wait : he hits you again, and you die.

Basically, the punition is not that you got killed for a missed dodge. The punition is that the boss forced your character in a slow and painful animation where you feel he’s disabled or something. And deep inside, you very much know that you’re dead. But you’re still stupidly hoping somewhere that you can stand up. But of course, you can’t.

It’s like the boss saying to you “missed that dodge, bro ? I heard you like being hit, so I put a hit in one of my hits so you can be hit when you’re hit. buhahaha. Gitgud.”

And at that point, you usually either rage quit, or enable cheats to oneshot that looser of a badly designed boss.

But they are still two completely different things. In wow, for example, you have to perform dps rotation + to know the mechanics perfectly, like all the other players in the group, and the mechanics themselves are far more complicated in wow. In ER you see a boss who looks awesome, the animations look like you’re watching a fight from a movie, but… The mechanics of each boss come down to two things, dodging and blocking (if you’re using a shield) and that’s it. Even if you don’t know the mechanics perfectly, a good timing for dodging and blocking will be enough. So you get the impression that you are always fighting against the same boss. Yes, they have different animations, shorter or longer range, they can be slower or faster, but you will beat them all in the same way, by dodging and blocking.

I say this ofc from personal experience.

Souls series gameplay is 1) dodge rolls all day 2) bugged hitboxes and abysmal collisions, no wonder you don’t find that enjoyable

For SOULS games you need to have good reaction time

For example yesterday i was watching my boy quin69 struggling against godrick the grafted
and he often times yelled how he roll that and that but he sometimes didn’t realize that after 1 small slam is going to be big one and he coudn’t react to it fast enought so he was hit again and again
but at the and my boy quin69 killed that boss naked with a CLUB xD

Sylvanas phase 3 would like to say hello.

Not sure, with raiding usually before even entering people watch guides.

With games like Elden Ring (at least in my case), I don’t do it. It’s usually also not team play, but solo play,

I personally feel less satisfaction killing a boss in Elden Ring with another person, I need to solo-killed it!

Of course a team experience is different from a solo experience.
