Random BG All Should Have Same ilvl

Is random BG not intended to ease people into PvP? What if every one is automatically gives exact same gear strength AND caped so random stay balanced all expansion?

You have 110 Levels which you can do random BG’s and learn your class / PvP basics ( at minimum ).

It’s an MMO, character progression is important, so gear should matter to a degree. Templates were tried in Legion and were awful.

If this was raiding / M+ would you be asking for gear / stat normalisation ?

No.

However, I would very much like to see a scaling baseline item level for random BGs added (So all gear is scaled to at least X ilvl), so that as seasons go on, and ilvl of current gear increases, the gap between fresh characters and geared characters remains as it was at the start of the expansion. Gear should matter, but there should be a fair baseline for everyone, which still allows them to be a valuable member of the team, and pull their weight whilst they earn better rewards through content they enjoy.

The complete lack of reward structure for random battlegrounds is another problem entirely, and also one that sorely needs fixing.

The problem with gear upscaling is that you could use weapons and various other items with silly effects to simply wreck the balance. It happened in wod at lower level bgs (like wearing 2p t6 allowed you to use stormstrike with a 2hander on enh shaman) and using a 2hander mace that scaled up into bloodlust levels of use effect

But I do agree that upscaling would beba decent solution. Whats the ilvl meta atm (I play like 8hours every 3 weeks these days)? 415 or so? So boost all items from bfa xpac to ~390 to avoid such shenanigans? Idunno. Some solutions are hard to come by as some bis items would’ve actually been from quest rewards and if they get upscaled it would be op.

All set bonuses are disabled now once you level past their level.

415 is mythic raid gear. So I’d say 400 ish is a “Fair” goal for people to have at the moment, titanforging pushes that up to probably 405~. So if we say 405~ is normal. 415 is good. 380 (5 ilvls below normal raids) is a fair “You have enough to do stuff but you are still weaker than other players”.

You don’t really need great gear to pull your weight in BGs. You just need to have relevant items in each slot (IE, not quest gear). That role used to be filled by the crafted PvP sets of MoP and WoD, it could definitely now be filled by a benchmark.

They wouldn’t, because though all your gear is a minimum of 380 or whatever, the ilvl cap for the tier is still 425, and there will still be people who did raid running around with 400+ gear. It’s just to make the people who dinged 120 and wanna do BGs (Which they are totally within their right to do) not useless.

…What about the mythic+ trinkets? Those things make burst crazy huge … right?

Not really, most pve trinkets are too deliberately overcomplicated / finnicky to work well in PvP. They’re also generally at reduced effectiveness in pvp anyway.

At least from a caster PoV, there’s no M+ specific trinkets that make burst “crazy” as you allude, and even from a wider pve perspective, trinkets have generally been substantially weaker this expansion than any previous.
