Random graphic glitches

The last few years I’ve been having some random graphics glitches in game. They seem to appear random and in no specific situations and sometimes they don’t appear at all. When they appear I can sometimes turn the camera and they disappear but when i come back to the same angle they are still there.

  • It doesn’t help to do a /reload I have to exit the game for them to go away.
  • I have also tried to “repair” game files but that hasn’t fix it either.
  • I have checked for heat but no problems there.

It is relatively rare I see them, which is why I haven’t posted before, but today they seem worse than ever.

Could it be my hardware or is it a game thing?

EDIT: Updated with links to screenshots.

You can post links but you must put them inside preformatted text, you can choose it from tools above message field.

They will look like this www.google.com

Screenshots of the visual glitches would be indeed highly appreciated, additionally the basic diagnostic logs of the computer could also prove very useful here.

You can upload them to a service like pastebin and then post the link here, like Decayin described - the symptoms you described unfortunately do sound a lot like progressive hardware failure, which in most cases would leave at least some traces in the logs.

Thank you Decayin and Veadsarias.

Here are the requested diagnostic logs:

I had a quick look at the diagnostic logs and they do show some slowly escalating stability issues, but nothing extremely serious (at least as of right now). What does show up I would probably file under hardware slowly aging a bit - a few of the components in the computer have apparently been in use for the better half of a decade, which in most cases will eventually lead to issues such as you described.

Any chance you could still upload these screenshots, so we can see whats happening on your screen when the glitches do occur?

They are getting a bit old but I don’t experience anything in other games. This thing only appears in WoW.

I have put links to the screenshots in my original post.

Those screenshots unfortunately look like bad news. Elongated texture/model seams (which leads to those “spikes” extending into the distance) are a very common warning sign of video hardware failure, often related to the memory chips on the video card being corrupted or the card itself overheating. Its not all that unusual for such to first/only show up in one particular game, since all games do work slightly differently when it comes to how certain aspects of hardware are being utilized, but once this has started to happen it is usually only a matter of time until more starts going wrong (which would fit what was shown in the MSINFO records, which already hinted at general stability issues).

Since there is also a (sadly rather slim) chance this may be just the result of a corrupted video driver I’d suggest to try clearing all current drivers with a tool like DDU and then only install the most recent reference driver directly from the manufacturer website - but if that doesn’t do the trick I’m sorry to say you may be in the market for a new video card.

Thank you very much for your reply.

It is getting old that GFX and I have been thinking about replacing it - maybe upgrade the entire system. To be honest it is getting really bad today so it fits pretty well with what you say about the aging of my GFX card.

I will try the clearing of display drivers and if that doesn’t help I will go on the market and look for some new hardware.

Happy to help, and fingers crossed!

I am having similar issues, my oldest hardware is around 3 years old and it is the graphics card, but i also tested different newer one, does the same thing.

I could do fresh clean install again during xmas holidays, my rig is custom build by myself, i am advanced user, ssd is less than half year used, processor 1-2 years.

WoW seems to be the only game affected by this, but i rarely play any other games tho… camera speeds and stucks, very annoying to deal with…

Maybe some addon issue?

Rawek: addons can indeed break a lot of stuff in WoW, no questions there - but they generally cannot affect the 3D-environment or character/area models. As much as we often recommend to get rid of them… this is one area where they’d generally not make the “usual suspects” list.

If you’re having such troubles on relatively new hardware there may be another root cause behind this (after all, a lot of things can lead to visually similar results). Please feel free to create a thread of your own with diagnostic logs, and we’ll check them out for you.
