Ranged SV would make SO many players happy

The melee surv “makeoever” is one of the biggest mistakes blizzard has made in wow. The extremely limited playerbase for the spec is proof of that.

The main reason for changing survival to melee was probably to just have one less spec to balance tbh. Druids got a 4th spec, so something had to make way.

Its fine that there are a slim minority of players who likes melee survival, but it doesnt change the fact that the spec is a gimmicky experiment that blizzard really doesnt give a crap about.

Now they just have BM and MM to balance and SV to experiment on once in a while, there is no outcry since barely anyone plays the awful spec anyways.

Blizzard got away too easy with deleting old ranged survival, but i suppose if we knew at the time what a disaster the spec would become, there would have been an outcry back then. Either way, they removed a great spec and implemented an irrelevant one. Shame on you blizzard.

i know but i mean id rather take this than no rsv. Miss that dot ranged archer a bit. Im pretty sure they wont ever redo sv to a ranged archer again. Maybe they change their minds when they announce Wotlk Classic? xD

Make SV come back to its pre-legion state and i will return to game immediatly. Today classes are so boring and if i want to play ranged hunter i must play slow MM that i dont like. So i dropped game. Simple

But you need an active subscription to participate in the forums, so… How did you drop the game? I wonder.

There are plenty of cool melee weapons, in fact by having a melee spec you are giving Hunters in general even more cool weapons than if all specs only used ranged ones. Sooooo, the argument in that image is flawed.

Go to the topic dedicated to that subject then, we have been talking about that there, not gonna repeat myself here. XD

Correct me if I’m wrong as I’ve only played SV for a few hours.
But would SV not be ranged if they made Aspect of the Eagle a passive perma buff…?

Like that’s how minor the melee aspect truly is.

I guess Cleave would need to be replaced too.

Literally 2 changes that could be done in like 45 minutes. 2 hours if the dev hasn’t had his coffee.

Half the time I see SV hunter videos the dudes far away spamming kill command and applying DoT’s anyway.

No, you can’t aa from range, you can’t slow and silence either, so it would need more than having Raptor ranged

if you want to play melee ypu can play warrior/rogue/monk/pal/dh and etc. With cool melee weapons.
also devs could change BM to be melee spec, while mm will be ranged and SV 50\50 using both bow and some melee skills too. But they dont.

Same can be said about ranged, while mentioning all the ranged classes/specs. It’s not a good argument buddy.

Let’s be honest here.

Does anybody actually believe that the very first hunters of humanity (or any other race) used a bow to hunt? Or, as a race that needed to survive the wilderness, perhaps the very first hunters would be more likely to set traps and beat up their prey with a massive stick or a rock?

Being a “melee” spec (even though we only have 3 melee range abilities) fits thematically. Please stop trying to bring RSV back.

Facts RSV:

  • Even in BC, any serious raid group had atleast one RSV hunter for the debuff.
  • From Wotlk onward RSV was usually a great spec and many people played it.

Facts about MSV:

  • Least popular spec in the game.
  • Less than 1% of players plays/like it.
  • Was a massive mistake.

Its cute that some irrelevant portion of players likes to play this niche spec, but it doesnt change the fact, that Blizzard screwed many more people over who were die hard RSV players, by changing their favourite spec into this disaster that is SV today.

I have 2 arguments against Survival being melee:

  1. The majority of players want it to be ranged. Claiming otherwise is just disingenuous.
  2. A Class having both ranged and melee specs doesn’t work well because in competitive content players will always be forced to play the ranged spec.

It really depends on personal preference and which is stronger, and it also depends on the kind of content, what is good in raiding might not be good in Mythic and/or PvP. You have Shaman and Druid as an example of that.

That’s a very idealistic approach. History clearly shows that the ranged specs are always preferable just because they are much more convenient. Feral has to severely outperform Balance for you to be “allowed” to play it in competitive content. Of course there are special cases but the general rule is clear. Melee specs usually have to bring something “special” to be accepted into the raiding meta. Hence why Rogue is pretty much a “dead weight” class in raiding right now.

So you are restricting your argument to raiding? You know that’s not the only content in the game, right? Some people, like me, don’t even care about it.

Yes but that’s also why it was MY argument and I specifically mentioned “competitive content”. See below for reference.

If Rogue got a ranged spec I would most likely be forced to play it in raiding so it would impact me.
