Rare mounts like Time-Lost Proto-Drake?

I would love to be able to farm some rare mounts like this.

Mounts that don’t rely on winning the lottery once per week per character.

I miss farming it, wasting 8 hours per day during lockdown. Getting it gave me such a rush that I just want to experience it at least once more.

What are some mounts like what I specified?

You may well already have this, since it’s quite recent, but the Frightened Kodo from BfA Darkshore would fit the brief. You can get it whoever currently controls the Warfront, so it’s not a weekly thing.

Voidtalon, Frightened Kodo, Alani, Elusive Quickhoof, Ivory Cloud Serpent, Grey Riding Camel.

Those that comes to my mind, but I’m sure I missed some.

Voodtalon. Aeonaxx. Time lost. Silthide. Path runner. Sun hide gronnling mount(can’t remember rare name). Poseidus. Frightened codo. Lost camel figurine. The pink selfie seahorse. The alpaca mount from Voldun. Nakk the thunderer and one more from Nagrand. I might be missing some more though I am not sure.

Personally I hate this type of farm. Not being active and simply staying afk is not what I would consider game play but to each their own. Wish you luck on the hunt :slight_smile:

Some people love them, others dismiss them as content altogether. Im more inclined to lean on the side of the latter since as cool as they are, mounts are just too damn many by that point.

Green proto drake and White polar bear. I don’t know if they are considered rare mounts, but these two are the ones I farmed back in wrath. Drake took me weeks to farm, but the bear I got like second or third drop. These two are a bit different, you don’t “hunt” them, they are in a lootbox of some sort

Imagine paying to IDLE in a game… TLPD is still one of the stupidest things ever conceived that I flat out refused to ‘camp’ for.

I camped this for a week and then missed the kill because of a work phone call :smiley: I need to take some time before I start camping it again.

Yeah, those mount farms are quite nice, since it’s guaranteed if you find it. Here are some examples you can try & find. I’ll type how difficult it is to find these and some additional comments.

Time-Lost Proto Drake - Easier to find on low pop realms obviously. Otherwise quite difficult to obtain.
Aeonnax - Reins of the Phosporescent Stone Drake - Same as TLPD.
Reins of the Grey Riding Camel - Very hard to obtain in Uldum.
Poseidus - Found in Vashj’ir. Quite easy to find, and very cheap on the AH since it’s BOE mount.
Void Talon of the dark star - Probably the hardest. I suggest creating multiple trial characters on different realmshere, and parking them in Shadowmoon Valley since the most spawn points are there.
All WOD rare NPC-s (Poundfist, Nakk the Thunderer, Luk-hok, Pathrunner, Silthide, the boar in Frostfire ridge). Those are not that difficult to find nowadays since the spawn timer has been nerfed quite alot.
The pink forgotten hippogryph from Azsuna - Requires clicking on 5 crytals in Azsuna. Was really difficult to obtain back then, but now that few people visit Legion zones, it shouldn’t be so hard. I also suggest low pop realms and early / very late periods of time to reduce competition as much as possible.
Frightened Kodo from the revamped Darkshore - I used a trial character on a RP realm for this, and actually found it within minutes. I advice you doing the same.

It’s also quite handy to be with WM off obviously.

Oh and if you love to hunt these mounts, let me suggest something else! The secret mounts are even better to obtain!

Try the Riddler’s mind worm, Lucid Nightmare (my absolute favourite), The Hivemind, The Slime serpent (ok not a huge secret here, but still quite a nice challenge), The Fathom Dweller and others!

Yep. It took me a while on my Draenei shaman. Got lucky one morning it was just there.

my little bit of advice to farm thoses ( at least for TLPD & Aeonaxx I got them this way):

Create character on low pop realms & level to 40 for fast flying mount then use chromie time. The world has a separate shard from “normal” realm for chromie time & it is way less crowded.

I got my TLPD this way: I farmed for about a week & got most if not all vyragosa kill ( at least when I was logged in). Average 4 per day.

Extra infos:

  • For TLPD: There is a theory that regions of the world “logout” to reduces server load. When the region is offline, timer of rare spawn is either frozen or reset. I believe this is true: If I assume I was alone 90%+ of the time on my shard, when I logged in every morning, I have never seen either a corpse or a living rare. Also when I logged in “only” every 1-2hours to check the region state, i have never seen a single spawn.
    => The important information about this, is that you must keep a character login in the region to keep it alive & keep the respawn timer ticking.
  • For Aeonaxx: in chromie time he will kick your butt if you try to solo it. Also don’t kill it at the edge of the pillar or he might fall inside it, you can try aoe loot in that case.

I personally prefer playing the lottery than waste time with waiting for a certain drop. I’ve never actually seen the TimeLost Protodrake. So…
