Hello,
I understand your frustration with the current state of the Solo Rated Battleground Blitz system, especially regarding rating fluctuations and matchmaking. The issues you’re experiencing are indeed linked to the Matchmaking Rating (MMR) system, which determines the rating adjustments after each match.
How MMR Affects Rating Gains and Losses:
-
Winning Against Lower MMR Teams: If your team’s average MMR is higher than your opponents’, victories may result in minimal rating gains. Conversely, losing to a lower MMR team can lead to significant rating losses.
-
Winning Against Higher MMR Teams: Defeating teams with a higher average MMR than yours typically yields more substantial rating increases, while losses in such scenarios have a lesser impact on your rating.
This system aims to match players of similar skill levels, but it can sometimes lead to situations where progression feels slow, especially if you’re consistently matched against lower MMR teams.
Community Insights:
Many players have shared similar experiences:
“I was at 1648 rating after winning 11/11. Every Blitz I enter our average MMR is 1300-1450 and enemies sometimes even lower than that. So how are you supposed to gain rating when the wins grants me 4-5 rating and the losses -19?”
This sentiment is echoed across various discussions, highlighting a broader concern within the community.
Recommendations:
-
Maintain a Positive Win Rate: Consistently winning matches will gradually increase your MMR, leading to matchups against higher-rated teams and more rewarding rating gains.
-
Adapt and Strategize: Consider analyzing match replays to identify areas for improvement, coordinating more effectively with your team, and adapting strategies based on the battleground and opponents.
-
Stay Updated: Keep an eye on official forums and announcements for any changes or updates to the MMR system, as developers may adjust matchmaking algorithms based on player feedback.
Remember, while individual performance is crucial, team dynamics play a significant role in battleground outcomes. Engaging with the community, sharing experiences, and providing constructive feedback can contribute to potential improvements in the system.
Best regards.

As a casual player, getting past 1800 is one of the hardest things in game at the moment. It is harder than playing on higher ratings because you quite often have to carry 7 clowns with no PvP experience against teams that are better organized, while you can depend on players that know what to do and know how to strategize beyond that lower rating. These people do not need to be told twenty times what to do.
The MMR system is designed like a slot machine. You consistently have to play tens of games to make up for the rating loss of losing a few games.
I wouldn’t let it get to you.
perfect for the current patch theme
they need to have a rule that you cant enter RATED pvp unless you have full pvp gear equipped
that would fix SOME issues with PVE players ruining matchs
also i believe they should give casual BGS more conquest rewards per wins
at the moment people YOLO queue into blitz because you always get 150 conquest.
if they buff random BGs conquest rewards, the casual players wont queue into blitz to “gear up”
To Add Deserteur to People what dont Accepting the Blitz Que will improve this Gamemode already by Miles.
I found that Blitz still hands you 1800 just like last season, but it seems even easier this season. On my shaman i lost 4 in a row right at the start and even after that I was still at 2k MMR. then I just went 50% winrate up to 1800. Took I think 16 games.
On my warrior I won my first 6 in a row, then lost 2, then won 2. Total games 10 for 1800 rating and I think im 2900 MMR or so.
The RNG/Lottery feels less of ‘some people get rating, some people don’t’ and more ‘some people get 1800 in 8 games, some people get it in 18 games.’
As usual the hardest barrier to overcome for blitz (and shuffle) is the boredom barrier. sitting in a queue for 10-20 minutes is actually unbearable for me
i achieved 1800- 2k on 8 classes so far ,
- war,dk,hunt,evoker,shaman,pala,mage,priest
some classes were literally 10 games and i got to 1800 CR and 2700+ mmr
while
some other classes literally took about 40 games to claw 1800 rating and 2k mmr
i noticed that new alts i created had it WAY easier, you can get rating way quicker on a fresh toon
only done it on 2 chars, but both of them seemed to have taken my existing MMR from when I stopped playing in november and then reduced it by about 500 MMR. My warrior for example when I stopped playing in november was 3k MMR, when i played the other day for the first time since then it was 2500. Shaman was 2800 MMR in november, started at 2400 last week. I lost 4 in a row and went down to 2k, then bounced back to 2500 rapidly.
what did your brand new characters start on MMR wise?
2500mrr + around there if i remember right
but it took like 10 games and then each win was giving me around 200 CR
pretty much got to 1800 within 10 games
- if you bricked your old character in pvp mmr, its better to just make a new one
I think it is unhealthy.
Probably, yeah.
I can play 2-3 games a day at most, and sometimes none, so I don’t really have the time to play tens of games to make up for lost rating.
It is far easier to climb as healer, rogue or mage, than it is to climb as a pure DPS class without much influence on how the game unfolds. I can get 1700ish as healer with my eyes closed, but climbing as anonymous DPS is far harder and far less forgiving - since you can make up for useless players far less.
The problem isn’t gear but lack of knowledge, awareness, etc. I think it’d be a giant help if a sticky is made somewhere with basic BG tactics in. It’d make the entire bracket more competitive and fun.
disagree imo unless you mean duoing. The game is so unbelievably fast paced and CC focused, that being the person who can instantly swap to where your damage is needed is enormous. Playing healer I felt completely helpless outside of slowing people or CCing people for flag caps. on my warrior I could cross the map and kill an FC all by myself and win games with ease, by comparison.
part of that is of course because warrior is disgusting right now, but replace warrior with whatever the next disgusting burst damage class will be and you have the same jist. I have never felt more useless as a healer, and I generally main them in pvp. i’ve completely abandoned my rdruid, mw monk and hpala and just play resto shaman now. I did play priest as well but disc is so boring i’d rather sit outside and feed the birds than play world of warcraft as a disc priest.
now if you mean a duo, then yeah healing in a duo with a top spec like rogue/fury/mm/boomkin is disgusting.
I am, but my partner isn’t a top player, and playing ret. It’s a personal preference, I guess, then. I find it easier as healer, rogue or mage, as my impact on the game seems far bigger.
The Blitz MMR is special , because when you are at 2600-2700 mmr you can be with ppl have a 7-3 and they dont no the strat , in blitz its really easy to grind
new characters are protected on MMR
so the first 10 games have random MMR placement, you only need to win 50% of them and you get to 1800
ive tested it.
but if you try doing that on your character youve had for a few years, the mmr will be bricked or capped to last season
TLDR:
make an alt and test it for yourself you will climb quicker
