Hi Everyone I hope you can help. So Pre patch is live however I am unable to turn on Ray traced due to unsupported for graphics related reasons. I have a fully updated RTX 2070 Super (Latest Driver 456.71) and a fully updated windows. I don’t know the exact build but it was last night I updated. However it is still saying unsupported.
Am I missing something? I have Dx12 enabled in game and everything on Ultra.
Its possible that ray tracing will only be enabled when SL gets it’s full release- try reposting this on the games, gaming and hardware subforum- they are very knowledgeable people on there
Yeah same, the only option available it seems is shadows. Idk, it doesn’t seem as drastic as some of the previews made it seem, so it’s possible we’ll only truly get the full experience come launch.
my FPS dropped from ~140 to ~60-70 setting raytracing to ‘Good’ and i honestly couldn’t tell the difference so i just turned it off
The 20 series cards have always been a little gimped in the raytracing space anyway, i imagine those lucky few on 30 series cards probably won’t see any drop at all.
Whoa, that’s a massive drop! I’m playing T 60 but have had zero drops in FPS, so I can’t say it’s hurt me. But yeah, the visual difference is incredibly minor in old zones.
I played a bit of the starting zones on a US server last night, and it seemed a little more prominent there.
Either way, I feel like it’ll only get properly implemented come launch.
I can’t turn on Raytraced either - Made sure my drivers are up to date, even did a clean install, went to make sure my windows was up to date as well - nothing to update on that end…
Don’t expect 9.0.2 to suddenly have better ray-tracing performance. This feature has an extremely high computational cost. Even the 3080 cards have huge FPS drops with this feature enabled in WoW.
The only solution, if you find the FPS drop too significant, is to slightly reduce the shadow quality settings. Ray-tracing at medium quality still looks much better than the old implementation, in my opinion.
I tend to make a habit of checking at least once a week. Glad you got it fixed
Oh, I’m not too worried about performance at the moment. At the moment, I’m running it at High and I get a stable 60fps, but I most likely wouldn’t hit 90 if I had a higher refresh rate monitor.
To be the output just seems a little meh. Like, the shadows are barely noticeable in old content. But I’ll wait and see what the rest of the new starting zone looks like later with it on. It might just be done better there.
This feature need more tweaking I think. I got a considerable fps drop when I turned it on. And I was using the best quality but there wasn’t much difference. Maybe I was not in a right area or something, I’m sure it looks nicer in other areas. Regardless I don’t think it’s worth the FPS.
