Ray Tracing - Unsupported for graphics related reasons

Hi Everyone I hope you can help. So Pre patch is live however I am unable to turn on Ray traced due to unsupported for graphics related reasons. I have a fully updated RTX 2070 Super (Latest Driver 456.71) and a fully updated windows. I don’t know the exact build but it was last night I updated. However it is still saying unsupported.

Am I missing something? I have Dx12 enabled in game and everything on Ultra.

Its possible that ray tracing will only be enabled when SL gets it’s full release- try reposting this on the games, gaming and hardware subforum- they are very knowledgeable people on there

I will give that a try. I have seen others enable it on pre patch so it isn’t that. Thank you

Haven’t had a chance to look at prepatch yet, but I’m only using a gtx1660 super

That’s weird

I have a 2070Super as well and it worked perfectly, right out the gate.

Have you tried a clean install of your graphics drivers? I tend to clean install with every update and it prevents these issues.

How do I do that? lol

I can only see Ray-traced shadows and that works fine on my RTX 2080 on driver version 456.71

Go to Nvidia’s side, download the driver, install, tick the option for clean install, NOT express.

Yeah same, the only option available it seems is shadows. Idk, it doesn’t seem as drastic as some of the previews made it seem, so it’s possible we’ll only truly get the full experience come launch.

I have just found another update in windows as a “feature update” I am installing that now. See if that helps

Ah yes, there was a windows update. That’ll probably do the trick!

my FPS dropped from ~140 to ~60-70 setting raytracing to ‘Good’ and i honestly couldn’t tell the difference so i just turned it off :stuck_out_tongue:

The 20 series cards have always been a little gimped in the raytracing space anyway, i imagine those lucky few on 30 series cards probably won’t see any drop at all.

Whoa, that’s a massive drop! I’m playing T 60 but have had zero drops in FPS, so I can’t say it’s hurt me. But yeah, the visual difference is incredibly minor in old zones.

I played a bit of the starting zones on a US server last night, and it seemed a little more prominent there.

Either way, I feel like it’ll only get properly implemented come launch.

There was loads of updates for windows :open_mouth: but it fixed it. Thank you everyone!

I can’t turn on Raytraced either - Made sure my drivers are up to date, even did a clean install, went to make sure my windows was up to date as well - nothing to update on that end…

Still can’t enable it D:
Got a 2080 Super

I was hoping that ray-tracing in WoW would be like what you see in Ray-Traced Quake 2.

In a few years from now, GPUs are going to be able to run ray-tracing like current GPUs run point lights.

Don’t expect 9.0.2 to suddenly have better ray-tracing performance. This feature has an extremely high computational cost. Even the 3080 cards have huge FPS drops with this feature enabled in WoW.

The only solution, if you find the FPS drop too significant, is to slightly reduce the shadow quality settings. Ray-tracing at medium quality still looks much better than the old implementation, in my opinion.

I tend to make a habit of checking at least once a week. Glad you got it fixed

Oh, I’m not too worried about performance at the moment. At the moment, I’m running it at High and I get a stable 60fps, but I most likely wouldn’t hit 90 if I had a higher refresh rate monitor.

To be the output just seems a little meh. Like, the shadows are barely noticeable in old content. But I’ll wait and see what the rest of the new starting zone looks like later with it on. It might just be done better there.

I have a 2070 super and ray tracing max with max settings and I never drop below 70 fps even in main cities. It’s super smooth!

This feature need more tweaking I think. I got a considerable fps drop when I turned it on. And I was using the best quality but there wasn’t much difference. Maybe I was not in a right area or something, I’m sure it looks nicer in other areas. Regardless I don’t think it’s worth the FPS.
