wonder how it works ? always payed sub or used token instantly , but if i the sub expires, and i have a token on my bags , can i use it to reactivate my account?

Yes.
If your time has expired, you can choose your realm and log in to your character selection screen as normal. From there:
- You can log into any character up to and including level 20, without game time.
- IF you have a Token in any character’s bag, you will be offered the chance to use it to get a month of gametime.
- IF you have enough gold on any one realm, across all characters in total, to buy a Token, you will be offered the chance to use it to get a month of gametime through the Token.
It’s well done; all very smooth and civilised, and easy to get back in.

LOL I do love hearing myself type. 
The point is, though, that sometimes people do not make their situation clear, or I may misunderstand them. Making a full sentence or paragraph of the answer with context reduces the chance they think I’m answering a “Yes” to what they meant, when that was different to what they said.

Everything Gráinne said is correct. I might add that you can store them on a character under lvl 20, that I also suggest inviting into the guild you’re in. You can do that so if your game time expires, you could log in and talk with your guildies from that character and maybe even decide the best moment to use the token.
