I think this is why Blizzard want to try and see first. Most people’s reaction is a knee jerk one of oh no I can’t do that anymore (which is pretty much how most of us react to any change).
I’m sorry devs, but you are just outright being arrogant.
You are being callous with the time of your players, you are taking it for granted. Games are supposed to be fun!
Every other MMO out there is doing the opposite of what you are. Making things more accessible, more immediate, more direct to the fun, wich is what keeps players engaged. NOT to force them into long flight paths that we will just tab out of.
This is nothing but arrogance. Let me break this clearly to you. Your game isn’t a looker. No one wants to watch the scenery hundreds of times and waste their life doing it. This is not unlike the flying debacle! You are being outright arrogant and taking your players for granted. But your game has been in decline for years cause you think you are right, but you’re not. You are forgetting games are supposed to be fun! If anything you should be adding more conveniences, not removing them. It is mind blowing! I love the game, but even i can tell you, you are heading in the wrong direction. You are seeing problems that aren’t there.
Get out there, try playing other MMO’s and gain a bigger understand on how you can improve WoW. Stop the arrogance, please, please, just stop it.
To me it’s not that I can’t do it, it’s that I find no valid reason for this change.
Firelands does actually the mount hyjal one and MC is on SW doorstep
Reading the opening post, I am shocked at how short memories can be… though at my age, I’d probably be expected to know better.
If there are any specific locations that feel as though they’re about to become unreasonably inaccessible, we’re certainly open to adding additional means of travel in the future.
So, “we’ve made decisions, unsubscribe and if there’s enough of you to impact our bottom line we may mercifully try and revert them.” Is that it?
Do you really want to repeat Pandaria pre-merge collapse, or WoD failure, that badly? Because that’s what we heard from you back then, too.
I completely don’t understand why you’re so hell-bent on removing convenient portal access from Caverns of Time, which in their majority are content that’s up to 10 years old, and always had a portal. There’s still two raids, entire faction and several instances there… just not really worth going head-over-heals when access is taking time.
Or are you already so desperate for your reporting statistics that you’re risking community’s wrath just as the half-annual subscriptions with the ship mount, that carried the 2018 bottom line so well, are about to run out?
I became acutely aware of just how important is the convenience of access to old content through Karazhan portal recently, when in the post-Uldir lull I finally had some time to spend in the old content. The fact that I had Karazhan portal for that was instrumental. Until there was no such access, I never delved there. And please, stop bringing the same ancient tunes. Nobody who’s casually fooling around old content will ever grind out the things like the Karazhan ring or Medallion of Karabor, if they didn’t even when the stuff was current content. Triply so not on alts.
Which actually takes us to the other issues. It seems our dear tyrannical gamemasters on their jihad against convenience of portals completely forgot the ancient stories about WHY this game even HAS a “Portal: Stonard” on the Mages. Sure, those parts aren’t even current content anymore, but the issue is still very real for those of us who don’t call Stormwind home.
Mind you - I do not oppose you tidying things up. I don’t mind if quite some of those routes are one-way or hidden as dialogues on NPCs who won’t talk to us until we at least visit the “other side”. But I still want them to be there for me, if I DON’T feel like getting on a flight path and tabbing out to read or watch something.
Travel time IS NOT GAMEPLAY NOR CONTENT, once the path has been travelled.
To be perfectly honest, I look to my first days in this game and can’t believe how nowadays developers shoot themselves in the foot.
You know, back then, once the pre-WotLK event settled down enough for me not to be made into a zombie at every turn, I played through Mulgore with my buddies up to Thunder Bluff, and in a cave there is this NPC, asking you to take a pendant to a grave in Sepulcher. Back then, just learning where in the WoW Sepulcher is wasn’t that easy, and then - as a new player, you’d set out, on your own two feet, on a journey. Across a blank map, with rarely even a pointer as to where you were supposed to head to.
THAT, That first journey experience, made WoW feel like a world. NOT the subsequent, routine travels to a place once discovered.
Fast forward to today, and the launch of BfA.
And what do we see? Not even a trace of that spirit remains. Once I chose a zone on a map, be it Voldun or be it Nazmir - I was conveniently flown right to where I was supposed to be.
No room to discover.
No room to set out on a journey.
Just a boooooooooring ferry, from people who wear the robes of World Designers, but have forgotten the spirit, and now just concentrate on trivial things to wring even a few minutes more of oh-so-precious core reporting stats to make them took good, even if in a longer perspective they are destroying the very sould of this game.
It’s a very very bitter disappointment.
Now, think again, think hard, and even if it’s one-way portalling NPC instead of a portal (like our old friend sparing us the lengthy travel to the gates of Molten Core), give us a convenient way to reach Caverns of Time, and in case of the Horde, the Karazhan or the Swamp of Sorrows.
Just noticed a player on PTR has linked a pic with the NPC in Shatterh removed for CoT portal.
You can see that in the comments in the link Puny put in which is really really helpful ty Puny
Sorry but I don’t see where it is said that Zephyr is removed, can you link it please?
Its in the comments page 1 of 5 even with a pic of thr NPC removed on PTR.
Actually, she has been removed as well. So the only way to get to CoT is taking that Uldum portal.
Heres a screenshot to show that she is, indeed, gone (it’s from the ptr)

The pic sorry
The Dalaran NPC is removed. Zephyr is in Shattrath and somehow dodged the benevolent manifestation of Blizz trying relentlessly to improve the player’s enjoyment.
You can see by the setting that this is in Dalaran, not Shattrah
im going so blind sorry
I am a mage and don’t see a problem… Btw selling portals directly to cities if anyone interested
What does one cost from my garrison to Thunder Bluff?
I hope you don’t charge by weight like they do on planes, that would hurt my feelings a lot
I know I’m in the minority here but this change really doesn’t bother me that much. There will still be plenty of portals to each continent, plus mages warlocks and meeting stones.
Mostly all higher levels that have seen the content before will have 310% flight speed and can just autofly to where they’re going.
Having all the portals in once place will be nicer anyways, to get to old dalaran at the moment I’m using a chain of 3 portals one after the other which is really weird.
Please remove flying altogether, leaving it in game was just an oversight after BC. This will greatly aid in making the world feel so much bigger. And since you have already tested removing flight for a few addons, and player annoyance went through the roof every time, it seems to be exactly what you are aiming for.
It is disappointing that you want to increase the time of playing it’s the same as we can say you are stealing time from us in other words to be clear stealing money, i’m a veteran player most of the time i accepted the changes but this time in my first post i have to complain about it.
The new players won’t notice this because they are still learning the World of Warcraft way of playing that i know you have done a good job getting better on it since vanilla but you have to learn to hear the community and as my suggestion, work on the portals on a new expansion with planification and the correct way to communicate it.
With this mages will make a fortune with the portals. Will you make all the classes have portals too to solve this?
I do a lot of things in the game in the small time i have, you can tell: why you play if you dont have time? but i love this game and i will continue playing if i can until the last expasion. I collect mounts, pets, achievements and it is crucial for me to enjoy the game to do the things faster and you say you dont planned a better way to manage the portals, it is your fault.
Try to make the people chat on the way to do things flying or whatever? hey, do you play the game now? the people comunicate directly to their friends with the battletag, and chat and social on their guilds, you don’t have to remove the portals.
This is the time to make things right and don’t do things the people who pay for this game, get mad and dissapointed with you.
Now it’s portals being taken away. Next time it’ll be:-
“We’ve realised the portals situation isn’t ideal, and to fix that we’re going to leave it exactly as it is, but remove something else you like to take your mind off those portals. Also we’ve noticed a huge increase in the number of people playing the Mage class. To correct this we’re going to nerf mages dps into the ground which will in turn encourage people back to other classes. It’s all about finding balance between wrecking the Mage class, and wrecking every other class equally while making as much money as possible. Bear with us and we’ll find that balance!".
And you just know people would argue in blizzard’s favour even in that situation.
Or how about: “We’ve realized that removing portals to certain locations is making reaching some areas and instances harder for many players and this is making many players sad. We are listening your feedback and to remove this inconvenience we have desided to remove CoT and Karazhan instances from the game all together, removing need to use the now removed portals.”
How will that make me interact with other players when there is sharding all over the place? Most people I come across aren’t from my realm, I cross them once and shall probably never see them again. That would make sense in the old WoW where you didn’t have LFG and LFR and then no CNZ.
