If you were a GM, why wouldn’t you just record your whole online session lol - I mean, I GMed myself on private servers in the past and that’s, like, common sense if you want to catch people cheating. It’s not something you turn on the moment you see anything, you just have it always running.

Filming their session … dude! Really ?! What about the missed ones?! If they disconnect, or their script stops just when GM is near, or they are not online at that time, etc? Data logs are the way to go. That’s how things work.
So again, I don’t care you were a GM on a private server. I created WoW private servers when you were crying to be a GM on a random private server and what you say is very difference vs official servers.

I mean, there’s really no reason to exclude one or the other method (other than Blizz being cheap). Parsing data logs can also be affected by human error (just look how many people make mistakes while filing taxes or don’t read product descriptions when buying something, because it’s too much text even if there’s only 3 sentences there). AI would also be very bad at locating unnatural behaviours, because it will not understand what a “natural behaviour” is.
Tackling the issue with both approaches at the same time should yield the best results.

There’s plenty of regular players managing to catch long-winded sections of bots running into instances or farming around. It’s nowhere as hard as you might assume. You can easily get 30-60s worth of footage that would be enough to unmistakably recognize a char as a bot. I’m not sure what this nonsense about disconnecting is - like, seriously, take a tour around actual servers in Classic and see what it looks like.

11 actually, I’m a big boy now.
while i want to believe this sadly i dont. over this past few weeks ive reported some 10 suspected bots mostly to mining in Icecrown in full BOE Blues/Greens. ive reported one player who i highly suspect is botting the AH. the longevity of which they play is just ridiculous. were talking 5am and the players is still on at 2am the next morning. i understand some players do play a fair bit hours wise but to be online daily for 19 hours plus is just suspicious as hell.
