Recommend me a good laptop for wow please :)

Basically just the title. I will fill the rest with a copy paste from a similar reddit thread I created. I hope it’s okay guys. It doesn’t have to be just as I describe it below, I would be more than happy to just play WoW on it :slightly_smiling_face:

  • Total budget and country of purchase:

$500-$2000, Russia/EU. I currently live in Moscow and tech here is overpriced by like 30% because of an import tax. I often hear Russian tech retail stores are selling crap quality, so I’m a bit scared of buying something expensive here. So I consider just taking a trip to EU to shop for tech.

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

Yeah, I own a Pixelbook which is 2 in 1 form factor, and I absolutely love it. I’m looking for a supplementary laptop for my Pixelbook honestly, the only thing I can’t do on the go is to play WoW and use Unity without lag. So another laptop doesn’t really have to be amazing in everything, I just want it to be good at WoW and Unity. Battery life is not very important either. Good performance for the buck is a must. I don’t mind going over my budget if I get an amazing value, but I think WoW and Unity has a specific hardware threshold which is pointless to cross.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Thinness is not very important, but I’d like it to be as light as possible because I will probably be carrying it as a second laptop.

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.

Probably windows because it should have the best performance for WoW and Unity. I also absolutely love Linux, so it would be great to have some compatibility. Mac is meh, overpriced.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

I have tried quite a bit of laptops, Macbook pro 2013, XPS 15, and now my main machine is Pixelbook which is 12 inch, and it’s perfect for me. I can go bigger, it’s not a deal breaker for me. Smaller probably not.

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

As I mentioned before, my main goal is Unity and WoW. Everything else is complimentary. I have a desktop PC to handle heavy loads.

  • If you’re gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Big time gamer here  I’ll be more than happy if it could run games like WoW, Overwatch, Dota 2 above 60fps at 1080p. Also maybe a game like Sea of Thieves, but it’s quite heavy, so meh, I’d rather save some cash do big games at home.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I’d like to use Laptop’s trackpad and keyboard as my main input source, so I really don’t want it to get hot, and it would be nice to have a big trackpad and a good silent(so not mechanical) keyboard with a decent wrist-rest. I know playing games with trackpad is considered masochism, but I did just fine playing WoW on my macbook pro 2013 during my classes in high school xD

I don’t want to carry any additional crap, so yeah, I need it to be decent out of the box.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Maybe good build quality, simple and clean design and good speakers? But meh, it doesn’t have to be insane.

I appreciate your time, thank you <3

At mininum I would aim at something with GTX 1050 Ti and then look at prices for GTX 1060, GTX 1660 Ti, RTX 2060.

  • 1050 Ti: https://geizhals.eu/?cat=nb&xf=11295_21610+-+NVIDIA+GeForce+GTX+1050+Ti
  • 1060 6GB: https://geizhals.eu/?cat=nb&xf=11295_21608+-+NVIDIA+GeForce+GTX+1060+(6GB)
  • 1060 6GB Max-Q: https://geizhals.eu/?cat=nb&xf=11295_21707+-+NVIDIA+GeForce+GTX+1060+Max-Q+(6GB)
  • GTX 1660 Ti: https://geizhals.eu/?cat=nb&xf=11295_21902+-+NVIDIA+GeForce+GTX+1660+Ti
  • RTX 2060: https://geizhals.eu/?cat=nb&xf=11295_21901+-+NVIDIA+GeForce+RTX+2060

If you find something you like check a review, like on notebookcheck. With anything above GTX 1050 Ti you can also look at 1440p displays. Moving to RTX 2070/1070 would give even more power but with those GPUs laptops get bigger and need way more cooling. Also do compare 10/20-series GPU performance as they intertwine (like GTX 1660 Ti is faster than GTX 1060 and usually on par with GTX 1070 but also GPU laptop variants can differ and have performance limited by thermals or the Max-Q variant).

I decided to go with lenovo y740 with 2060 and 9750h, amazing performance so far
