Red Eye / Sanlayn skin for (Elven) Death Knights?

With the new Sanlayn heroic spec it would only make sense to unlock the skin… or the red eye option for literally every DK out there. Right now only night elf DKs have the luxury of picking the black eyes while the rest have been stuck with the glowy blue eyes.

You can tell by my avatar here I like the look and it doesnt even necessarily make sense for a paladin while it would make much more sense for a DK.

I don’t think you should look at the names of some of the hero talents as an actual admittance of you are a san’layn now

There is a lot of racially unique stuff in there for classes of all types, look at hunter for example. 2 out of 3 hero classes are racially bound, you cannot be a dark ranger without being undead, sentinel is purely a night elf role

disclaimer aside;
considering the sanlayn skin is technically an undead skin for the elves that have it, it was always a bit weird to me that it wasn’t available to DK’s, so imo it should be added to DK skins regardless of the names of any hero talent specializations.

The only thing I can think of is that San’layn may be raised differently then Death knights, which explains the difference in skintone

I don’t see why not, especially since we already have at least one DK with that skin ingame. It’s an odd limitation.

Debatable but at the end of the day I thought bringing it up made for a more compelling argument as to -why- we should get red eye customization. I agree that they should have just given us the darkfallen / sanlayn skins right away since they are meant to represent undeath and there are plenty of DK NPCs with red eyes. Speaking of…

Since I know there is a very huge likelihood someone will bring up the “loar” blizzard clearly plays around with the lore like clay. Things they say are set in stone rarely ever are. They have changed and retconned. Yes, theyve said blue eyes are a lore thing for the so called “Third Generation” Death Knights and its beyond me why theyd use lore arguments given how much they play around with it for gameplay reasons. They just cant outright say it that they want to prioritise other features over small cosmetics for whatever reason.

Moreover Id like to emphasise player choice. Even non-roleplayers often come up with a backstory for their character. Not every human is going to come from Northshire / Goldshire. Not every orc was a peon in the Valley of Trials. Likewise not every DK needs to be a “third gen” DK. Second Gen DKs had black eyes and theres clearly other DKs among the old guard with red eyes.

I mean… times have changed. Druids used to be strictly male in the nelven society, now women can be too. Shamanism used to be a Horde thing but the knowledge was shared by the Broken.

Likewise every unique “craft” such as sentiel… ism and dark ranger…ism has now been taught to the rest. Or rather to a select few because we have to keep in mind players are the exception(a small minority of super duper elite soldiers) and have been since WotLK. Were no longer some generic adventurers like we were in vanilla.

How literally should one take what abilities you use as part of your characters background/lore is somewhat subjective but if I pick the warrior class and pretend to be a lightning mage as I spam thunder clap I doubt Id be taken seriously on any level.

San’layn is specifically an elf thing, its more of a race then a class really, the idea is that if you use anything other then an elf, whatever you get is not san’layn
It is mostly chosen after san’layn cause its vampiry and iirc san’layn is the more blood/vampire themed one so thats what they called it after, humans aren’t becoming san’layn cause it’d be like trolls turning into orcs, it makes no sense

You would be a lightning thane, which really is just the WC3’s mountain king, so technically a dwarf only thing, where thane also fits a lot better then king based off of the inspirations that dwarves have in wow

So really you would not be a lightning mage, you’d be a wc3 mountain king
with abilities like ‘stormbolt’ and ‘thunderclap’, the theme has always been there

Again tho, lore talk aside, I agree that belf/nelf dk’s should get the san’layn skin only because san’layn are undead and so are DK’s
