As I understand, red skinned Draenei joined just after the questline that unlocks the option. Those are actual ex-memebers of the Burning Legion that decided that the whole Kil’jaeden stuff wasn’t that good after all.
Technically they should have been it’s own Allied Race, but that would need more work and having it as just customization options is a nice compromise.
Can you Lightforge a Manari Eredar full on Fel magic? Maybe? Would they retain their red color? No answer for that either.

They should have just made Lightforged a customization too. To this day we suffer from the consequences of recolored races.
To be fair, all races should get fel themed skins - both green and red. As it is all just possible to happen, so why can’t we all be wannabe demons?
Funnily enough they are closer to being lore friendly than Lightforged warlocks and even Death Knights.

Definitely not! I would really hate to lose my Lightforged Racials and be forced to use the regular Draenei ones.
As much as Gift of the Naaru is useful as a healing spell, I really DON’T want to trade it for my Lightforged AoE racial.
Also, as a sidenote, if you cast Gift of the Naaru as an Man’ari skinned Draenei, the crest on the forehead is in green Fel colors and shattered.

Only way a LF man’ari would work is if you play as a Lightforged draenei, then race change to a regular draenei and get the customization.
You would def need to yeet the Light before you could embrace the demonic!

But if for real, asking the red skin for lf draenei is like asking green skin for the mag’har orcs…you would agree that this would be a bit silly.
Unpopular opinion incoming:
Allied races which are of same 3d model as their relatives should simply to be customization options of a ‘main’ race. Aka to be merged with ‘main’ race.
Here is my take on this:
It should have been just a customization, but it should have been come with a selectable new racial set to choose from. No new race like that yet everything you have now you would still have it, and probably would have made it much easier to introduce any kind of sub race with a twist on racials and all.

I agree, it is what they should have done with both lf draenei (and most allied race minus vulperas) and man’ari eredar.
