I just did the final battle quest again and went to talk to Genn on the bridge. Then I saw all the worgen there and I thought back to that scene in Harry Potter where Neville blows up the bridge as the werewolves are running across it. I wonder if it’s a subtle reference to that scene?

As for WoW referencing other franchises, that’s quite common. Though usually it just rips them off very blatantly
It’s possible that it was an intentional Harry Potter reference. I came across a reference to Starship Troopers which made me lol.
There are a huge amount of references to other franchises. Webpages on the internet are full of them.
