I refuse to do Dragonflight content. I just want to play pre-patch and gather all the currency from there. However, I’m not receiving any Flightstones, which means I can’t upgrade my gear. This is really frustrating! What can I do to get the upgrades I need without engaging in Dragonflight content?

What’s it matter? You’ll be replacing those 480 gear with greens come TWW.

Absolutely nothing.
If you want the rewards from the content, and that includes flightstones, you have to actively participate in it.
You don´t get the football World Cup by playing basketball and refusing to play football at any cost.
… Unless you pay for someone to steal it for you, or in this case to get boosted, which is basically the same thing.

Also, if you don´t mind me asking, what you you even need the gear for if you don´t want to play content? You can roflstomp old content naked, don´t need raid level gear for that. 
Don´t get me wrong, I too I would love a lamborghini in my garage just to be able to say I own one and let it collect dust… but I don´t expect it to just fall from the sky because I want one

Play something else with the time you’re not collecting the prepatch stuff?

TBH, do whatever you want, it´s no skin off our back either way… Farm yourself silly on prepatch, or play something else if all other WoW content is a no go for you.
But no matter what you do with your time, don´t expect rewards from content you´re not running, just like you don´t expecta paycheck from a job you don´t actually work at.
And again, nobody “needs” the upgrades to begin with, 480 is already going to be OP in 4 weeks. But, respectfully, nobody needs them less than someone who doesn´t actually want to engage with any content that actually requires gear to be successful. You are, basically, showing everyone exactly why the flughtstones actually need to exist… that being so that people with better gear actually have to play the game to get it and not just faceroll-roflstomp loot pinatas.
While it certainly doesn´t solve the problem of people being overgeared and underbrained, it goes a long way to help… Otherwise you invite people with 502 to a (N)HC raid expecting at least a modicum of competence and you get 25 M+ Affixes instead … 1 hunter goes autohit-afk, 1 Priest doesnt understand fire hot,I DK doesn´t understand voidzone hurts, i Warri taunts despite not being tank, another hunter Bloodllusts randomly, 1 mage uses no DefCDs, one Paladin uses no movement CDs… and everybody competent then farms repcosts on faceroll-content and quickly leaves as a result.

All this person asks for is for something better not to have to play old outdate content which is gone in 30 days to upgrade his gear. Just saying its not even good ilvl gear just 502. Blizzard are very much on hiatus at the current moment.

Then he isn’t realising it is currently prepatch towards a new expansion. He is literally asking for NEW content a couple weeks before actually NEW content comes.

There’s an upgrade vendor right beside the Event Vendor in Dalaran.
Think that got recently introduced.
Get the gear on as many characters you want and logoff…
Like there is nothing else to do besides the boss every rotation.
The pre patch event is technically already TWW content so you would not play DF content.
The only downside you can’t upgrade.

You can, Upgrade NPC beside the event Vendor in Dalaran - believe it was recently introduced.
Just don’t expect to upgrade a lot when Flightstones and Crests only trickle in.

Think your missing the OP point. Why do old outdated seasonal content to upgrade this gear when it’s not even 525 only 502.
Counterquestion: Why should max NHC raid-level gear be given out for just afking in front of a vendor?
Allowinfg the event gear to be upgraded with event currency is basically just flipping the bird to millions of players that actually invested time and effort, however minimal it might be, into playing the game. 480 for standing around with your thumb up your bum is more than good enough, especially for players that don´t want to run the content anyway…
You´re basically arguing that everyone that goes grocery shopping should get a free Sportscar to make it a more enjoyable experience.

Doesn’t this also happen with the new expansion, since before the middle of the first zone we “casuals” will be fully equipped in higher than 525 which you “hardcores” worked months to get?
This is one of the reasons I hate the Seasonal style of the game, where the entry gear of a new Season must absolutely match or exceed the absolute BiS of the previous. Back in the day you would get an item from the first raid of the expansion and you would keep it until the end. And there was no so huge power creep.
