I am a relatively fresh level 60 warrior on Classic Era, and everyone tells me the most important thing is to reach the hit cap.
After working hard to earn gold, I buy a Core Marksman Rifle which has +1 Hit base stat, and the tooltip states that it has also been enchanted with +3 Hit. I buy this off the AH for 3800g in the belief that it would total to a +4 Hit rating, immensely improving my total hit rating.
You can see the tooltip here: ibb<dot>co<slash>tZ9vv8x
Now it turns out that the +3 Hit it has been enchanted with only works for ranged weapons, which the tooltip does not state, rendering this item useless to me. I have been in contact with customer support, which does not want to reimburse me my gold.
Am I, just from looking at the tooltip as a fresh level 60, supposed to know that the +3 Hit enchant only applies to ranged hit?
In the unlikely event that anyone from support wants to look at it, read the last message in EU93395185.
Hey Lethan,
I can certainly understand where you’re coming from, and tooltips will always be a balancing act between brevity and exact functionality.
In most cases you can simply learn as you go along, but for any major purchase or decision I can only recommend looking things up beforehand.
As for refunding the purchase, I’m afraid that’s simply not a possibility, and you can read more about that here:
If you believe the tooltip should be changed, you can of course make an argument for that as well:
Hi,
Thank you for replying to my post! I appreciate you taking your time to reply to us.
Now with the problem in mind, did you have a look at the item’s tooltip? I agree that, in general, that the burden of a mis-purchase on the AH belongs to the player. However, in this case I feel like a tooltip stating +3 Hit and not giving that stat could be considered so misleading that it’s unfair to put it squarely on the player. Alternatively, a bug on Blizzard’s behalf, for which a player can not be blamed.
I do reallize I probably will not get my gold back for this purchase, but I have appealed the decision in a ticket and hope for my point of view to be understood. In either case, I hope you will put in the word “ranged” before hit, so players in the future do not make the same mistake I have.
If other players have a take on this, I’d be happy to hear your opinions.
Thanks for your time!
You just need to look at the type of weapon the enchant is on and go from that, technically it’s not an enchant. Isn’t it a scope?
Yea, turns out it is a scope, shows up the same way an enchant would. My problem with it is that any other weapon with +3 Hit in the enchant text would have given me +3 Hit melee. Otherwise it would have been specified that it is for ranged only. I feel a bit cheated, heh.
Wrong Tooltips are just lazy these days.
