So Turalyon was recently named regent of Stormwind. A regent is someone who takes over when a king is absent incase you don’t know. Lor’themar was regent in place of Kael’thas when he lead the blood elf expedition to outland. But the Sunstrider dynatsy is over. Why is he still regent? Shouldn’t he become king?
Because becoming a king is done via birthright.
Lor Themar is not from Anastarians dynasty and thus has no rightful claim of the throne.
I don’t know wether or not there are elves left who are from Anastarians bloodline though, but for Lor Themar to crown himself king, he would need to overthrow the state and build a new one, placing his bloodline onto the throne.
This however would require the nobles to support him, but every noble would rather see their bloodline on the throne.
So basically the reason is a eternal draw situation between the nobles who all would want to claim the throne and to prevent the state from becoming unstable and sinking into a civil war and chaos, it is more save to just rule the city in its current form as a reagent but not a king.
Same formof power but he can’t give the power to the next one of his heritage.
Yes, I know a regent can’t declare themself king through birthright. I just thought that because he had been in charge for so long people wouldn’t object to him crowning himself. I didn’t know there was a struggle for power in the noble houses, can you tell me where i can find this information in the books? I wasn’t aware of it and it’s a good enough reason for him to remain regent lord.
Actually I don’t know ether. It was just a logical train of thoughts. As these are the things that normally happen and blooelves are not necessarily the most selfless race.
Just providing you with reasons why he can’t just crown himself. It is all speculations.
Fair enough. Would be nice if they expanded on it.
Give it time.
Blizz will probably get round to showing the internal conflicts and what shape they will take in due course. This expansion on Blood Elven internal politics will probably align with when they eventually decide to revisit and update Silvermoon and the region of Quel’thalas as a whole.
Based on whats been stated above so far, there’s nothing concrete at the moment to support factions for or against a potential power grab by Lor’themar or by any other potential claimants at this point in time. The majority of ideas presented are for the most part speculation and purely head cannon.
However, these ideas themselves are mostly drawn and further extrapolated from what we currently know now or could assume to expect from the Highborne and by extension their high elven descendants as whole.
This would be based on how their culture has been presented within the universe and lore supported by both past and present examples of their behaviour observed on numerous occasions under an array of various circumstances and situations from a number of sources both within the game and supporting literature external to it.
Take for example the Nightborne nobles and the quests surrounding Ly’leth positioning to become a personal court advisor to Elisande during the Nightfallen Resistance campaign in Legion.
From this we can discern that they can be very Machiavellian at times which does trend towards some very cutthroat situations especially where court politics are at play and where ones personal standing is at stake and potentially on the line.
The consequences of which loosing control of a situation can be catastrophic for an individual and by extension their family and well-being of their respective house too. Although, I understand i’m using a Nightborne example here, we can assume the culture would not be to dissimilar within Blood Elf society also.
That said, you can already see indicators that there are signs of push to cement Lor’themar’s regency in a more formal manner. A concerted effort by those with an interest in the outcome seems to be gaining momentum.
These appear to go as far back as the Shadow of the Sun novella, where in the absence of Kae’lthas you get the impression he is pressed by others to take up the mantel of responsibility a step further and fill his shoes in the power vacuum created.
In addition, the recent development of his close relationship with that of Thalyssra being the First Arcanist of Surmar and now quite possibly the defacto Grand Magistrix of city only serves to reinforce any future claim he may have to the throne of Quel’thalas.
A political marriage would likely bring prosperity to both cities including much needed security for the Blood Elves in assisting them to secure their existing holdings and borderlands within the Ghostlands and beyond.
With the absence of Sylvanas now no longer leading the Forsaken and the Scourge once again running rampant, it is unlikely that the Blood Elves can consistently count on Forsaken support to assist with this task without her personal favour.
The Forsaken themselves having lost the Lordaeron capital itself too would have also dealt a significant blow to any military capability they may of once had on the continent.
We also know that this relationship with Thalyssra was somewhat supported and actively encouraged by the two other prominent leaders of Silvermoon, Ranger General Halduron Brightwing and Grand Magister Rommath, both of which we can assume personally benefit from their friend being in power. It may also not be to much of stretch to assume that they are also aware of what is to gain from such an engagement being capitalised on.
However, as Liira has stated above where some individuals would benefit from such a development it can be also be assumed that others would loose out and be placed in some form of disadvantage if such a turn of events were to unfold.
It is correct to state that current situation essentially keeps the peace and any movement is likely to disrupt that stability.
It should also be noted that the High Elves and by extension the Void Elves would also be affected by such a change of the status quo although, by no means to the same extent as the Blood Elves themselves if an individual were to make a bid for the crown. A new king would validate the Blood Elven claim as the true successors to the High Elven Kingdom after the events of the Third War.
he declined the chance to be king several times he has no interest in becoming the king of quel’thalas in fact he don’t even want to be the regent lord he rather go back to being a farstrider captain
We will see how long that pretence holds up.
What if he was told to do it for the greater good of his people?
Remember one of his NPC lines is
What I do, I do for Quel’Thalas.
think your more likely to see keal’thas get redeemed and sit on the phoenix throne once again then the regent lord becoming king
As much as Kael’thas was a promising leader in his own right beloved of the people, who also abstained from taking the title of King after the death of his father, I think the dead should stay dead.
alas the dead never stay dead and that’s the whole point of sl
Didnt Halduron Brightwing and Rommath want for Lor’themar to be King?
It’s Lor’themar that does not want to be King.
“Never again shall a king reign in Silvermoon”
You’re both right but, he is still the head of state and the King of Quel’Thalas in all but name. It’s about time he lived up to his charge and took on the mantel of responsibility for his people.
You cannot mourn the dead for ever, even though Kael’thas, him and possibly others think they cannot follow in the footsteps of Anasterian.
Keal’thas will return as king and bring with him the power of meme’s …
I wouldn’t be surprised if by the end of Shadowlands the humbled Kael’thas did something that formerly acknowledged Lorte as the leader the Belves need, or something like that. Just some cheesy line.
