Region locked promotions are a disease

Absolutely disgusted by the amount of region locked promotions, there was the battlepet, then the mountaindew bike, and now another mog:

Only in the US if WoW Head is to be believed - this is honestly so unfair, for such a nice mog too.

Update: Good news, with the simple use of a VPN set to the US, closing and reloading discord, you can get the quest and complete it.

Unfortunately true, but I can rail against the wall to soothe my soul a little.

I see in the small letters the code can be redeemed globally. It’s just the streaming portion that is somewhat troublesome.

Ideally there shouldn’t be any promotions like this. You’re playing a video game. That shouldn’t arbitrarily compel you to buy cans of soda, plushies, or start streaming.
It’s manipulative and it’s bad.

Since we can’t have the ideal, the second best is that we here in the EU don’t get it. Yeah you feel left out right now, but what they get in the US is as distant to us as the Chinese getting flying Spectral Tigers. It’s irrelevant. So we’re missing out, but it’s a blessing in disguise, because there’s no fear of missing out if you could never get it in the first place. So there’s no hassle and there’s no stress, there’s no wasting time Discord streaming. You get to not worry and just play WoW – which is what we’re here for in the first place!

The worst scenario – which we can hopefully avoid – is the Mountain Dew promotion where it’s not meant to be available in the EU, but there’s a loophole so codes can still be activated here, so players end up spending a bunch of money on eBay and less-trusty places, which is super bad.

What annoys me the most about all of this is the frequency of these cross company promotions that Blizzard are doing. It feels endless with more and more and more on the way. And the “rewards” are ultimately things that – from a consumer perspective – should be in the €50 game with the €13 running subscription in the first place!
And this is why (among other reasons) we don’t allow this kind of crap in the EU, because it ultimately screws over the consumer. And whilst the Americans may enjoy getting screwed over by corporations, we Europeans generally don’t. And I think that’s worth appreciating and holding onto. To hell with these business practices.

Yes!
Eu wants the gummi pet, the crowns and all the other promos that have been US only lately. Why make the divide between the regions bigger?!
And discord poromos have NO REASON to be one region only!

Its not just down to Blizzard, in EU for example you are legally not allowed to do some promos like they do in US.

I agree with the original post.
I’ve never really had a problem with the store or the tokens… It’s available to everyone and for those of us who have little time to play, the token is a shortcut to getting gold. But this is actually making me angry…

These promotions are just crummy… There is a very good reason that promotions requiring purchase are forbidden in Europe. It’s a cheap marketing tactic and because of the limited availability worldwide it just creates dissatisfaction among the players. This is beneath Blizzard (though possible not Microsoft…)

In summation, the whole season of these lousy promotions has gotten me closer to leaving than BfA or Shadowlands ever did… At least in the wake of those sub-par expansions there was a sense that Blizzard had heard the criticism and wanted to do better. In this case, I’m not sure, they’ll be allowed to.

Yeah, it’s becoming ridiculous.

Well, then they should just give us another, legal, way to get them; preferably in-game.

what bugs me about this is that we do get promotional discord events for games, so idk why WoW isn´t one of them.

Agree, and we DID get the last one, with the ogre pet.

someone in my guild was able to do it thanks to VPN :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

its crazy how we have to find loopholes to get these things

How? Because you need discord nitro for quests, and for nitro to register as a US account, you need a US billing address which is difficult to spoof from my limited understanding

The code can be redeemed globally though.

no idea but he has been streaming on discord and is now at 92%

edit:

he is now wearing the new mog in game.

it’s just annoying. if you can give twitch drops you sure can give global discord drops too.

It’s promoting the game. Would you prefer all this stuff to be on the in game store?

Who whoa Whoa!

It doesn’t promote the game. It promotes the other product, whatever it is.

It is not like people who are on Discord see that they can get a skin for a helmet in World of Warcraft and immediately feel an urge to play World of Warcraft.

What does happen is that people who play World of Warcraft see that they can get a skin for a helmet in the game if they sign up for Discord and try out its streaming feature. And for Discord there is a possibility that some WoW players will appreciate Discord and its streaming feature enough that they’ll keep using it.

I mean, understand who makes money off of who in these cross-company promotions.
It’s not Discord who gets money from Blizzard. It’s Blizzard who gets money from Discord.
Blizzard basically approaches Discord and says:
“If we give you exclusive rights to this in-game item, and you give us a pile of cash, then we guarantee a certain amount of WoW players will sign up for your service.”
And then Discord says: “That’s a deal!” because they want more people on their platform, and this is an easy way to get that, and it only costs them a little penny. That’s as good as spending that money on regular advertising.

It’s the same deal Blizzard approached Amazon with. We give you the rights to these TCG items and you give us a pile of cash and we guarantee that a certain amount of WoW players will sign up for your Prime membership.
“Deal!” says Amazon, because they want more people to sign up for Prime.

We - the WoW players - are the commodity that Blizzard are selling. They’re making money off of us by “selling us” to other companies. Twitch, Amazon, Mountain Dew, Trolli, Steelseries, Discord, and so on. They all pay Blizzard money to get…us. And they do get us.

And because Blizzard really wants to make money these days, they are making a lot of these cross-company promotions, because it’s a way for them to earn money.

Edit: And for the record, I would rather that these items were earnable though gameplay in the game, with no external hassle required. Obviously.

Good news: with the simple use of a VPN set to the US, closing and reloading discord, you can get the quest and complete it.

Will add this to the main post.

Discord does not even support HDR streaming let alone tonemaping to SDR its just one big bright screen.

Would expect in 2024-2025 they finally support HDR standards that came out i believe in 2003

If it’s not available via promo, yes
