Relic Hunters, Hardcore Pve Guild recruiting on Hydraxian Waterlords

Relic Hunters

Who are we?

Relic Hunters is an alliance guild located on the Hydraxian Waterlords server. Our guild is made of a core of long-term friends, who met online playing WoW more than a decade ago, and who decided to relive their best moments playing classic. Don’t worry though: we’re open to newcomers and are eager to meet new people!

We like to invest ourselves a lot in games and pursue great achievements: we aim at the top, and that’s how we have great fun. We like competition and hardships.

Website is being coded. WIP. You can still come to our Discord any time you want:

What’s the guild’s philosophy?

Efficient progress. Quality over quantity. Our moto is: if you do it, give it your best. If you fail, learn from your mistakes.

Though, while we are a group of hardcore gamers, we’ll be unlike any other hardcore guild you’ve ever met. You can bet your money on this.

  1. We are a group of hardcore gamers.

We want to be the best around and play with like-minded players. We’d rather play less, but play well, than play more to achieve less. Our objective is to progress quickly and clear raids and bosses, clearly. This means we need dedicated and open-minded players.

  1. We are unlike any other hardcore guild.

We don’t ask people to play all day long or to raid every evening of the week, because it’s not mandatory to clear all the content - and it will burn people out.
We want our members to enjoy themselves, to have fun.

No one is expected to be a no-life. Having a life is perfectly fine and understandable – even advised. Just remember that we ask you to be invested and punctual, as you can’t be a high-end PvE guild without at least this.

Also, we won’t be one of those excessively toxic hardcore guilds who feel superior to other smaller guilds. We really want to have a good relationship with other guilds on the server, maybe even organize RP events with them. Who knows?

Our definition of “a good player”

Being a “good player” doesn’t just mean being a former gladiator or having been part of a guild that got “first downs”. Those achievements lost their meaning a long time ago.

While it’s always great to talk about your past glory, it doesn’t define you here and now. Therefore, the two main things we will look at are: the quality of your gameplay, and your ability to learn from your mistakes in order to improve. The latter is probably the most important thing in our guild.

It does not matter that you don’t have any experience playing World of Warcraft, Classic or at all. It does not matter that you don’t have any PvE experience. What matters is your will to improve and play within a raid of people sharing the same goals.
Here are the other important qualities we value amongst our members:

• Involvement – Getting involved in guild events, big and small, even non-raid related, and guild-wide farming efforts.

• Performance – Properly playing your role in a raid or dungeon.

• Punctuality – Arriving on time for scheduled events you registered to.

• Consistency – Overall stable performance and improvement curve.

• Reliability – Not leaving your guildmates in the middle of a raid…

• Tenacity – Not giving up when things get (interesting!) tricky or difficult.

• Friendliness – Not being toxic, not shaming other players, not being aggressive.

• Generosity – The guild is not an Auction House; thus, we don’t want our members to make profit out of the other members. Providing components or paying for them is fine though. But the act of crafting, in itself, is free.

Why did we choose a Role-Play PvE server considering our goals?

As mentioned before, we don’t want to play with toxic players, and we don’t want to be toxic ourselves. PvP servers are known to almost always host the most harmful players.

There could be better players on PvP servers, or normal PvE servers. It’s true. But we personally believe that we will find enough competent players on a RP server, and it helps us avoid the toxicity of the other types of servers. We have played for years on RP servers and met exceptional players there.

We also believe that people that choose to play on RP servers are relatively more invested in the game (in a sane way) and more mature overall. That’s the kind of players we hope to meet and play with anyway.

Our position about Role-Play

Role-Play is not the main objective of this guild, honestly. It is unlikely that we will organize any Role-Play events ourselves – though shouting “For the Alliance!” while raiding Orgrimar is a given.

Jokes aside, we encourage our guild members to engage into Role-Play as it can be a very satisfying and fun activity. Every member of the guild is more than welcome to do Role-Play with other people, even other guilds, and organize such events.

It is also very important for people wanting to join our guild to understand that – as we are playing on a Role-Play server – we will never tolerate any trolling of players who engage in Role-Play. Hydraxian Waterlords is primarily a RP server and we want to respect that, even as a hardcore PvE guild.

One last word about communication and criticism

It will be equally important for our guild members both to express their criticism in a friendly way and be able to receive it.

We don’t want our guild members to feel shamed, insulted, or belittled. Even if someone’s performance is really, really bad, the situation will be solved calmly and peacefully. Public shaming will not be tolerated.

Though, this also means that guild members must be able to accept friendly criticism and improve from past mistakes. This will not be an option. If the same mistake is repeated, we’ll discuss about it with said guild member and tell him how to improve. He will have to accept the criticism and train, and do things the way he’s asked, not the way he wants to. This will be paramount.

Also, as mentioned before, trolling or being toxic to the Role-Play community will never be tolerated. I don’t believe anyone would ever do that while playing on a Role-Play server, but this needs to be clearly stated.

EDIT : 11th september 2019

Raids and organisation:

I will try to answer all the questions before they are asked:

TLDR

I will try to keep things balanced. The goal is to clear PvE content, with a fast progress, but without going overboard. I want to stay cool about it and not become someone who asks for the perfect racial / class / profession combo on everyone.

I will still ask for a few mandatory things, and player skills is among them.

4 mandatory raiding evenings, from monday to thurdsay, 20h to 23h. We start grouping at 19h30, first pull at 8h. 12 hours a week is more than enough to clear all content. People being late might get punished if it happens too often.

We will not necessarily raid the 4 days, since there often won’t be as much content to clear. If nothing is planned, you’re free to do whatever you want, but farming / clearing dungeons for rep (etc.) is recommended.

Why ask for 4 if I know that 4 will not be necessary before a long time, maybe AQ or Nax ? Because if we agree to 3 now, we’ll never get a 4th.

Now, the long version...

I consider it a fact that if you have 40 competent players, you don't need the perfect equipment, you don't need all the buffs, you don't need the perfect race / class / profession combo to clear all content.

We focus on the big picture not min maxing. If a race has 1% more crit than you do, or something similar, it’s ok, because the difference in terms of DPS is minimal. Skill will actually matter much more in this regard than having the perfect combo. I’d rather have an awesome player with the “wrong” race / class combo, than a “mediocre” player with the perfect one.

Raiding / attendance schedule:

We plan to have 4 mandatory raiding evenings, from Monday to Thursday, leaving Friday night and weekends for social life.

If no raid is planned during any of the 4 raiding evenings, attendance won’t be mandatory.

Other planned activities won’t be mandatory in any way, but will be rewarded.

Rerolls can be accepted in raid if it’s a content we are easily clearing, that your main character doesn’t need important items on the bosses that will be killed, or any other relevant similar situation.

It means rerolls will not be accepted in raids early in the guild days and that we expect people to invest time on one character, and not change their mind early about it.

Who’s accepted in raids, how, why:

We want people to have an optimal gameplay before they have optimal gear or class / race / profession combo.

We will not refuse people who do not have all the pre-raid BIS if they perform properly, because this is the part that matters to us the most. We will even help those competent people get their items.

Emphasis on the "as long as they perform properly". I will give more details to explain our mindset very precisely.

The main thing to have in order to clear content is competent players. Take two players. Same equipment, same class and all. One doesn’t stand in the fire. The other one does. It is more important to have the first player in your raid, rather than having the other one and forcing him to farm tons of things to make up for the fact that he’s not as good as the others.

Skill will always be the most important factor, before any kind of min-maxing.

I will not force a player to have all potions, elixirs, buffs like food buffs, and so on, if he’s already better than everyone else and as long as they are not mandatory. Hint : farming fire resist equipment for Molten Core might be mandatory at some point.

I will however ask a lot more investment from the people who underperform, so nobody comes and tell me that they are dragging the raid down.

This is also to prevent toxic yet legit behaviours in the guild. It is totally fine in an elitist guild that wants to clear PvE content to ask people to perform well. Therefore, we will scold the players who gets low results. But.

We plan to help them improve, and teach them as much as we can, and ultimately replace them if we have no other choice. We want to avoid toxicity at all costs. We are human beings, values like “respect among guild members” will be imposed.

What about the people being benched?

We do not plan on recruiting more than we need. Maybe a few extra casual members that can be there to replace the main raiders when they cannot be here for whatever reason (weddings, sick as hell, and so on).

The deal will be clear though. I will never tell someone to stay on the bench forever when his actual goal is to be part of the main raid. Though, I know a lot of good players that would be more than ok with just doing one raid every now and then. They will be the “extras”.

The deal will always be fair, and crystal-clear for everyone. We probably will not have more than 43 or so raid players.

What about the… “less interesting” specs like Ret Pal or Feral Druid?

They will be mostly refused, but we might accept just one.

Think about it. If you keep things 100% optimized, you will end up raiding MC with like 30 frost mages / warlocks. We want to keep some kind of balance in class representation, so no loot goes to waste. As I keep saying, the goal is to clear all raid content as fast as possible, but not going overboard.

Maybe one ret pal with NightFall to apply the +15% magical dmg dealt debuff is not the most optimised thing to do but can be accepted in the raid. But then we would only need one.

We might also ask those players to respec into something more optimised sometimes. Just like we might ask our Fury Warrior to respec as tanks when we need more tanks. Whatever the guild needs.

Good to have you around. Very glad to see you’re mindful of RP but bringing the heavy PvE for those that want to have it both ways and like the atmosphere! That’s always been a thing, and I hope it works out well here!
