Frostsavage set. I got it for a char the set bonus is decent at lvl 14 to 20. great after they’ll fix the broken legion gear.
We have transmog. You just need to equip the item once and save the appearance, you don’t need to keep it on?
I guess from the replies this feature was nerfed into uselessness. What a shame.
At least on my AH there is hardly any activity with these at all. This was a bad move from Blizzard. They seem to have decided to just make them worthless rather than suffer the embarrassment of removing them from the game completely.
Surely the purpose is for players levelling through an expansion who want to craft gear they can wear to fill in gaps not filled by quest rewards and/or heirlooms?
Should be able to craft end-game gear with them tbh, just minus a reagent slot to make them less customization due to past relic being used… obviously.
I assumed it was, but why go to the bother of doing this if only the boring items can be affected. I did a couple of interesting sets to use the relics on - frostsavage as someone else mentioned and the MoP crafted pvp gear, but really its slim pickings. If you are going to bring in a whole new system, I just assumed there would be a clear point to it?
Maybe once shadowlands is actually live we will see more of the reason for it to exist.
I guess if you are a new player and you pick up a crafting profession like tailoring in BFA and you have all this cloth in your inventory, it would be pretty confusing (and dumb) if you couldn’t wear any of the stuff you could craft.
Beyond that, vets might have maxed out a profession of one expansion but now all that gear can be crafted and used by an alt during the entire journey from 15 (I think it’s 15) to 50.
I don’t think it’s supposed to be any more complicated than: The whole world scales so crafted items have to scale too.
AFWIW, back when pre-patch was PTR I crafted a whole set of green tidespray gear as soon as I got to level 15 in BFA with just the cloth I collected from playing and the stats were way better than quest rewards and heirlooms for a long time which gave me a boost in power and meant I didn’t have to worry about missing pieces like belts, boots and wrist.
I didn’t level all the way to 50 but crafting felt relevant right from the get go and it didn’t feel as bad to level because I knew it would never become irrelevant as soon as the next xpac hit.
I dunno, maybe you can’t do crazy OP crafting but it’s not useless.
Also if you only need to learn the first set of gear, which is a really low time and gold investment, and you will always be able to craft a decent set for any character that wears that armour type when they are levelling no matter what content they are doing.
Ok fair enough. Those are all pretty decent reasons, I guess my expectations were just way off from reality.
I take it back. The relics of the past were substantially nerfed (twice!) and now the crafted gear they create is crap and only worth it if you are absolutely desperate to fill a slot.
The gear you craft now is worse than heirlooms and worse than scalable quest greens even at the exact same level.
I honestly don’t see the point in it unless you are desperate to unlock a t-mog at a low level…
If a new player asked me if it was worth crafting while levelling, I’d tell them no way. If you’re missing a piece, search Wowhead for for an easy to get quest reward and go get it as the whole world (and rewards) scale now, you’ll have that slot filled in a few minutes.

It is this. People were worried that Warlords of Draenor crafted gear was going to become unavailable as there is unique appearence for upgrading to rank 2 and 3 (no extras on the last 3 levels) and by removing the upgrade tokens for them it was going to remove them from the game. So this is purely a transmog thing.
Hi all i am trying to be a calm person not flaming and so, just want to point out that i am ok with the vendor shuffle nerf, but changing the item lvl of the gear makes it beyond useless. Blizzard said this was to make professions good again.
So i leave the question for any1 tell me just 1 purpose for the relics of the past.
Useless crap, too expensive too make it for alt gear. And you can get better and cheaper gear from mobs drop or in ah greens. No one will use this.
It’s so cute that you truly believe that this took much development time.
…It’s not even a good system.
