I’m still using a 1tb HDD for the game. Admittedly the loading times are slower but can cope with that. Will probably get an SSD nearer the SL release date
But that’s a lot of money for an addition to an almost new PC especially at the moment. I can put up with longer loading times if that’s the only difference it’ll make. It already takes a month of Sundays for Boralus to load so I do something else while waiting. Not a problem.
Around 60 GB wow + 40 GB for shadowlands? Total 100 GB?
Evo’s are only on the more pricier side because they are extremely reliable and you know it’s going to be a good purchase regardless.
Started with an 850 evo, 500 gb for my windows drive and never ever had an issue with it.
Currently my entire setup is SSD driven with a HDD that has 0 data on it as backup. Loving the speed
As a percentage cost of a pc though, its basically nothing whilst being probably the biggest upgrade. Certainly OS wise. But yea, these are troubling times for many people
Blizzard is good at reducing the amount in MoP wow was already at 60GB at that point.
For reference, the newest CoD is 190GB for me right now.
It’s not just about faster loading times, which is obviously a massive plus, one people without a good SSD seem to downplay, it’s far more than a few seconds for a start. The whole PC just feels snappier, almost instant boot/shutdown, Windows reacts faster, it just improves the gaming experience to no end and I could never go back.
£70 is nothing in the grand scheme of things when buying/upgrading a new PC, especially for such a notable improvement.
Its a minimum but thats to ensure it runs comfortably. You can run it on an HDD but it’ll just have slower loading screens.
yeah i got a 1TB Evo SSD XD no HDD At all
And what was the logic behind it since:
a) SSD loading speed is often more than 6 times faster than HDD,
b) SSD are replaced up to 25% less than HDD’s which means they last for longer,
c) SSD are less prone to malfunction due to physical stress (fall, etc.),
Only excuse to own HDD right now is the fact that HDD is still cheaper per MB so they are more profitable as backup/storage drives.
And you can lower the graphics settings etc to eek more FPS out of it. Minimum reqs are for mid-range settings not the lowest possible settings.
The game will run on hardware below the minimum settings but it won’t be pretty, won’t be smooth, won’t be fast. Those minimum settings are there to stop people complaining about it not being those things when playing on lower specced equipment.
BLASPHEMY!
…you can never have ‘too much’ storage… or too many drives.
Testify!
Soon as I lost the fishing comp in Wrath to a load screen I kicked my 10k rpm raptor out and got a SSD never looked back still using the same one today!
Prices not dropping everywhere in the world doesn’t make it a lie. In my country a 100GB SSD is cheaper than a monthly sub for wow.
Remember this was 18 months ago. There was a lot of talk about it in the tech forums and the general feeling was that the additional expense (they were a lot more expensive then) wasn’t worth it for WoW.
Where are you from, you can most likely get even cheaper ones.
Also, one of mentioned is m2 and both of them are 1TB,which is a lot.
If u just wanna play and use thiz QoL ( idk how much u will realy need it outside of loading screens taking too long) u can get 120/256GB one for faction of price.
There are also used one in my country going for realy cheap money…
Sorry I just don’t understand this at all.
I’ve been using SSD’s since years and it has been known for YEARS they outclass HDD… especially for games where there is a lot of harddrive loading of textures etc. I honestly think people already used SSD’s before Legion, likely in WoD.
They might have not been used by a lot of players due to their cost but it has never been said they weren’t better.
I regret it you have been this misinformed to be honest. /hug
Interesting, SSD prices at the begging of 2019 were a bit lower than they are today so I wonder how they got the idea that it’s not worth lol In 2018 sure price was kinda bad per TB but 2019 had the best prices for SSD’s.
Actually that is literally what it does when the Claim is that the Price Has dropped.
The claim put forth is that the price has dropped, when you make that claim you are also claiming the price has dropped at least all over europe when you make the claim in the european forum.
So no i do not agree with what you said there because it is not true.
Now technology is one of those things that stays very close to each other in many countries. Say a new video card comes out on the market the price in USA and where i am is very close to the same in USD.
So that there is this much varience between each country in the storage market is intresting to me.
