Im alittle puzzled as to why staffs are in my Shamans loot table, recived no less then 2 staffs today as loot from Ulduar TW event, both upgrades and both staffs.
Now as a elemental shaman these are totally useless to me !
So I see 2 solutions…
1: Make Thunderstrike Ward work on staffs
2: Remove staffs from shamans loot table
Cuz its a bitter disapointment having a veteran weapon and looting a hero weapon you cannot use… sad panda

You can most definitely use it. And you should.
Thunder-strike Ward will not give you more DPS than the raw stats of a hero weapon.

We have a spec, and spells for the class… we are clearly ment to use a shield
I can allso use str weapons, cloth and leather… but that was not what the post was about

If we are so meant to use a shield, then we would get a penalty for using a staff. Like the penalty you get if you equip a cloth or leather item.
But we dont. And stats == king.
Here is the top RShaman. He uses a staff. Crafted staff, so we deliberately chose it. Why ? Because its 90 crests cheaper to craft 1 staff than a 1-hander+shield. And it gives more stats. And more stats == more performance.
And that is what you want. More performance. And a Hero track staff will give you more stats than veteran shield. And you will gain MORE with the staff and no enchant than with a shield and enchant.
Untalent Thunderstrike Ward and put that talent point in Storm Frenzy. Until you get lucky and get a Hero track shield + 1-hander. THEN you can go back to where you were.
Now. WHY are shamans able to use staffs ? No idea. But while blizzard decides to do something, equip that staff.
The optimal thing is to use a 1h and shield in most cases. That is not the same as us being meant to use a shield with 1h only.
Case being if a caster staff legendary being introduced (like fyralath was in last patch of df). In that case the existence of such a legendary would outweigh the bonus of 1h and shield. Generally having the option is better than not having that option.
Talking about pve here just to be sure.
