Is there any point in having a gold cap for characters other than enabling scammers?
I think it would be better if every account had a gold cap of 500 Million in total, instead of 10 Million per character (50 characters max.)

it’s beneifical both to blizzard and to the economy if there is too much friction of moving gold between servers
imagine if boosters could move 1 trillion gold between 2 servers with a 20€ one time payment, but now, they can maximum move 9,999,999 for 20€ so if the boosters want to move gold its going to cost them
They can cap the transfer gold to 1 million

I am not sure what the current gold cap for changing servers is, but i moved 2 chars during legion and i was only able to take 250k per char.
i moved my monk alt from BurningLegion to Silvermoon 1 month ago and could take 830k (what he had on him) with him but i don’t know
point being, an infinite gold cap isnt good for the game, gold inflation in general shouldn’t be encouraged it should be remedied

The only real purpose it serves is to cap BMAH prices at 10m, although very few items actually get there, basically only the ZG mounts, plagued proto-drake and heavenly onyx cloud serpent.
It just means you have to make sure you’re dealing with someone reputable if you’re trading amounts larger than a gold cap, or use a middle man, which isn’t that big of a deal in my opinion.
Also you’re already capped at 1m when transferring.

Why do you need more than 10 million gold on a character anyways? are you planning to buy the entire auction house?

That is correct. With several TCG mounts like feldrake, magic rooster, ghastly charger and spectral tiger going for (a lot) more than 10m, there is no good way of trading these mounts without opening yourself up to getting scammed.

the gold cap is to prevent the average player from being invalidated economically and as such the current gold cap is simply too high, i am pretty sure the average player has never even seen the value of 300k at once and thus a gold cap of approx 5x that, 1.5m would be approriate for this moment in time with the brutosaur for example costing around 750k.
But i mean i’m not a developer and i’m sure they have better ideas than what I do.

but yes, in general there is too much gold in the game and no real passive way to get it considering how expensive some basic stuff can be. also, the current best gold grind (WoD/MoP raids) are having their gold income nerffed in SL. ty blizz. fixing the most important issues in the game as usual :\
why? as said here,
is fairly true. now, i would say more like 800k-1M rather than 300k, but point still holds. most players dont get above 1M, and if they do, its to buy something specific, and thus when they buy it, they go back to a low amount.
the amount of players who are gold capped is quite low i would guess, ESPECIALLY if they did not make their gold in WoD/Legion. AND like said, with the exception of the TCG mounts, what ever really costs more than 10M?
the only thing this would do is push prices up on bog standard consumables and profession mats, and in response blizz would make quartermaster items, and repairs even more stupidly expensive than they already are!!

I don’t even have a 100k on my main after buying the long boi, and I had to get five tokens to buy the mount.
I’ve never hit a single gold cap but I just play for me, I don’t gold farm, boost, flip etc.
