Probably re-iterating the same discussion all over but with the latest update I think this should be reignited. It’s good to fight off real-money boosting! I am completely up for that and yes, this decision will make Blizz earn less in some sense since buying gold might be less interesting but still, if feels like a half-hearthed solution that doesn’t show guts by turning back a (in my opinion) bad decision introducing a pay-to-win mechanic which is the wow-token. I can buy boosts, gear (even with less boe items), mats, gold, achievements, literally anything I might set my hearth to wanting to achieve anything in the game.
It creates situations like rediculously overpriced legendary base items and thus affecting the ingame experience of a allready paying gamer.
“But then gold farmers/sellers will return”, I mean really? There is no alarming system that can be put in place like auto flagging accounts that never interacted before doing a large sum exchange? Limiting lvl 1 characters without higher level mains to trade in some extend? Or ANYTHING creative to (partially) automate flagging of suspicious behaviour?
“But then we cannot buy gametime anymore with gold!” … Want a gold sink? Let people still buy gametime, make gold flow OUT of the game and not IN! Will only make the ingame market relevant again as it once was (in my stupid opinion).
“But you don’t have to buy gold!”… Still, it affects the market and thus me. It makes achievements less special in a game where prestige was THE thing you wanted to achieve. I mean, why bother doing M+ when this lazy guildy is doing boost after boost and pretending he surpassed me on own force? Why bother trying to see if anyone has experience in a raid if it can easily be bought for a few euros? Why would I pug if I already did the achievement myself and very likely waste hours on end on a pug group and the good chance of not even seeing the last boss within that timeframe if you can do it for the cost of 2 drinks within roughly an hour or so?
Why bother farming mats or fish if it is in some sense wortheless? I loved fishing, still do (I know, I am weird) but ever since the nagging feeling of it being a wasting of time more and more. Before I sold the fish and actually had the sence it gave a nice side-benefit of gold or at the very least give me the immersion of being a fisherman in a large open world but now that feeling is gone. The feeling of actually being a fisherman getting rewarded for doing his profession is gone! You’d expect because is more easily available that the fish is worth more though, would be logically offcourse but no… It’s is not. Fishing for hours on end and then just getting few hondreds of gold which is less then doing the daily emmissary quest is just crooked and bad.
Yes, it makes gold more available for those that need it and dont have the time to farm but THAT is the game. This game is a timesink, time equals ingame gain. At the very least we can say there are more downsides to upsides don’t we? We can also say we are already paying for the game, why should we be able to pay to get more of something that is so fundamental to the game? So, why not ditch this controversial feature and let Blizzard show guts instead of this half-hearted measure against boosting communities (even though it is a good thing in my opinion!).
I love Blizzard games and been a Blizzard gamer for over 12 years but these things just chips away at my pride and love for the company. Something that sadly has occured more and more lately…
Hence my first points, I mean I am a developer myself. With all the time gone into implementing this feature there should be some things we can thing off these days to counteract this.
I never understand this argument, it’s players that set the prices on the AH.
If you put the effort in and grind through the different ranks of legendary base, you make your own. Alternatively, you can approach a tailor with said materials (the legendary mats are now only a few hundred each) and request they make it, for a fee that will still run you less than the AH price.
Sure, if less gold exists, things will naturally deflate, but this is over years, not days and right now, people buy wow tokens just to fund their raid materials because they don’t want to go collect 500 flowers, that is their choice.
That argument aside, I like being able to use gold to buy gametime.
I support you!. but im afraid most ppl here at forum pref paytowin/paytoskip/paytodoanything instant/paytoslack/paytoleech/paytofeelspecial/paytopissrealplayersoff.
Only somewhat valid argument people seem to make is gold-sellers… Please, read point 1 and again that just shifted from gold-selling to boos-selling. Something that is still in the game even with the new rules and bans!
Thing is, mounts, pets, gametime are all limited but wow-tokens is something that can be repeated over and over and also the reason why indeed they probably wont remove it. But by not removing they just show their true colors. Ofc a company needs to make money, I hope they make enough money and have enough to keep improving the game but not by something that is so controversial and detriment to the game. Quite frankly there are more reasons to NOT have this then to DO have it so why? Why keep it other then it being an obvious cash-grab!
I’d rather see nice transmogs (yeah yeah Asmon didn;t like it) for selling and have pay-to-show then have the pay-to-win wow token. Just make sure that ingame achievements are rewarded with similar quality.
You got it right!, and this forum willl never change, they like tokens, they pref to slack. you know ppl with lots of cash pref every thing to be done by others.
Could just been done by some smart coding… tracking accs and how often they give out golds to other accs, being kind once in a while and giving away gold is not a issue. but when you got the sellers that prly have hundreds of gold trades/ buying overpriced items on ah… its easy to find and get rid of. can also IP BAN/HARDWARE BAN and creditcard ban… also u can see what accs do, if they play the game or just deal with golds. ban ban ban
The true mmorpg feel, when stuff are rare and ppl are poor and stuff are in genereal cheap. no longer accs that should have 15 silver got millons of gold to increase prices on every thing.
