I’d like to start a discussion on whether the gear upgrade system should be removed from the game. I still don’t get the old feeling that gear matters. I would like it if there is a more uniform system of gearing. And not such a variety of ilvls.
Let me give an example.
Guesting gives you ilvl 1
Normal dungeon gives lvl 2
Heroic dungeon gives lvl 3
Mythic dungeon gives lvl 4 Raid finder gives you lvl 4
Mythic plus rewards on complating gives you lvl 5 gear
Mythic plus chest reward should be scaled based on lvl of key that you complated but never to go above ilvl 6
Normal raid gives you lvl 5 gear
heroic raid gives you lvl 6
Mythic raid gives you lvl 7
How do you mates feel about a system like this?
Would kill the system , your whole idea is poor sorry.

Do you think it can get any worse from this :D,

Not sure what is wrong with 26-30 ilvl per season. And your suggestion also bring back the “raid or die”, so i am very much against it.

So to do well in M+ you “have to” raid?
It’s a complete non starter for this reason alone.

The current system is fine.

The current iteration of gearing is honestly the best one yet, giving people numerous methods to gear up and pushing their ilvl.
Hell, I was asking for this exact system way back when we had that Warforging crap.
Removing it would be a step backwards…

I think that the raid should put next-track-up items in your vault, the way M+ does. That’s about the only change I would make because I think current gearing and upgrades is one of the most accessible and alt-friendly systems we’ve ever had.
There is an argument that there are too many key levels. People commonly run 11s for crests until they have gear+ilvl for 17s, then they run 17s until they have gear+ilvl for 20s, and nobody really wants to do stuff in the middle because it’s just added difficulty with no benefit. We could potentially collapse the whole stack down to half it’s current depth which would make each step up feel more impactful.
Run a +16 at ilvl 400, you’ll find out it does
Your system makes M+ into the launchpad for mythic raids, which a lot of players don’t want to run or cannot access due to organisation issues, not having exactly 19 friends who can commit, etc. The only saving option would be to say that mythic raid loot is unusable or down-scaled in M+, such that the only reason it exists is to run the mythic raid and outside of that it’s just flexing your stats… but idk if players would tolerate that because it fundamentally announces “the real endgame is raiding” and people will be salty.
Its a no-no from me for any system which enforces the “raid or die” philosophy.

Stuff all bis pieces and trinkets into first 3 bosses and it’s a deal for me then. Otherwise, nah, your idea is terrible.

The upgrade system is one of the best things they’ve done to gearing in years.

Soooo ‘raid or die’ basically?
No thanks. Hate the idea.

It used to be like this before the upgrade system: mythic+ drops were 3 ilvls below heroic ilvl loot, though the vault can give you mythic ilvl drops.
I think the current system is the best middle ground we got. You have yo farm for your upgrade materials, but normal and heroic gear has value on the longer term.

I’d not mind it, if Mythic raiding was the best gearing source by a long shot, but I want mythic raiding to be logistically easier to do as a compensation for people liking M+ for the easy access. This means they should remove lockouts, etc. and open it up to pugging.
I agree.
The system may need some tweaks but it’s a reasonable system.
I’ve seen a lot of comments that M+ gearing is too fast now, perhaps it is (I don’t do M+) but it can be slowed down a bit.
As a purely Open World player I can say that gearing is too slow but it could be sped up a bit. Acquisition used to be too slow but Time Rifts and Dream-surges have made this a lot better. We still don’t get enough crest in Open World content so upgrading is horribly slow. I’m 419 slowly working towards 424.
I don’t know that we need so many categories of gear though.
Explorer’s gear (376) is good starting point for freshly dinged chars who are probably around 290.
Adventurer’s gear is a waste of space. I regret all the stones I spent upgrading the pieces I got early before I understood the system.
Veteran gear (402 - 424) is a good jump from Explorer’s gear.
I have a few Champion pieces and I had to upgrade them to be the same as the Veteran pieces they replaces (at least this re-upgrade cost is cheap but still feels unnecessary). Champion gear should just start at 424.
Overall I’d say this is a good system and it’s still quite new so it has teething problems to be ironed out. It could probably be simplified a little.
Just sounds like the current system with smaller numbers. Which is fine, I like smaller numbers.
What I’d really prefer is just 1 currency to upgrade all gear that you can get from all forms of content. Basically like the gear we have now but only flightstones. Reduce the amount needed and amount given (scaled down basically but the same) and tada, no more math headaches and carrying 50 different things in your bag.

I don’t like your idea. I think it would be bad for the game.
However - once again - why are people abusing the flag system? It isn’t there to say ‘I don’t agree with this person’.

Raid or die kind of game design can… Well, go and die.
Indeed.
I think it’s time to bring back the Thumbs-Down dislike option for posts. People could show their disapproval of a post in a proper way.

I hope that even the small ilvl advantage from mythic raid these days is also deleted.
Mythic raid shouldnt be rewarded more than highest keylevels or highest pvp.
It isnt a matter of skill, it is only a matter of finding people on your level to be able to mythic raid.
