So, on Telogrus Rift there are NPCs called Void Warlocks, which are then renamed to Rift Wardens after their transformation. Does this imply my Void Elf could be an Affliction Warlock (shadow and fel magic combined), or is it just a title? I have this idea about Sin’dorei Bloodmage (now Ren’dorei Void Warlock) which later on turned to the Void and was exiled. What do you think? Furthermore, what would be a general view on them by other Ren’dorei?
Void elven warlocks? Sure thing, why not?
All void elves use the void in combat (entropic embrace), so it wouldn’t be too outlandish for one to, say, emote shooting a voidbolt, but would also know curses and demonology.
And as for terminology, the guild I’m part of, the Umbral Vanguard classifies rift wardens as just generally the spellcasters. So a mage, warlock or shadow priest would all count as rift wardens, while also calling themselves individually whatever they prefer in addition to that.
So I see really no problem with your backstory so far.
I honestly think Blizzard puts in the various class-titles for variation and to sound more interesting and niche, and I for one like when people are a bit creative with their class, it’s more fun I’m not sure “Affliction Warlock” is an actual IC term since your character is not limited to that spec’s spells, I’ve seen people put “Demonologist” in but that is a specialization that says you focus on Demons which is a thing. If you’re focusing on only Shadow, I’d say I was a Shadowcaster or such, maybe Voidcaster to follow the Void elven terminology, or Warlock, or Rift Warden to simply show you do it all (I think mages also are called Rift Wardens? I’m with Tyreathion there and would call every Void elf spellcaster that as a general title I think).
Seems like a reasonable backstory
I can confirm, casters are Riftwardens.
The only thing I would think is that Fel consumes Void magic and is known as you could say; the moe consuming magic of them all. Then if you factor in the fact that a lot of the Void Elves became what they are because of Kael’thalas and the fel magic, why would they then want to continue practising it after the transformation?
I do think that other Void Elves wouldn’t care of Void Warlocks, they’re simply using the magic as a caster, the same way fire or frost magic is viewed upon the mages. Obviously there might be other races that don’t agree, but VE’s I think would look upon it.
