Renown catch up issue

Cant get a response anywhere else unfortunately as nothing is really clear about it, I’m currently at renown 20, have done about 50 bgs, a few dungeons in it as well and a few epic bgs in there as well (about 20 or so), yet not a single renown has dropped in all these activities
I just wanted to know if this is a normal thing or if there is literally an issue with my character because I feel like out of all those activities I should have gotten at least one renown point ?

As far as I know, you need to win the bgs to get a chance to get a renown level.

I mean winning bgs as alliance is as rare as seeing a bear in the middle of an airport

Try random heroic dungeons, seem to drop renown every other day. LFR will drop a couple (one a wing probably).
BG and eBG you have to win and then it’s a low chance.
Mythic and Mythic + dungeons also reasonable chances, and you do them anyway.
Campaign drops some.
Covenant daily will usually give one.
On 38 renown on my mage and just finished campaign, without really looking for renown as I went along.

I’ll try via hc dungeons instead, thank you

If you are not capped, you will earn Renown in the following ways:

  • By completing the weekly quests Replenish the Reservoir and Return Lost Souls. These quests will grant you one Renown each.
  • By completing the 9 chapters of your Covenant Campaign. Each completed chapter grants you one Renown.
  • Randomly through max level gameplay: dungeons, raids, PvP, and Callings (the new Emissary Quests). If you are far behind the cap, you can expect the chances to earn a Renown through these activities to be higher. This is thanks to catch-up systems in place to allow you to get up to speed.

For additional information on Covenant Renown please visit this Shadowlands Covenant Renown WoWhead guide.

The further behind you are the faster it is to catch up. It should be raining renown on you atm. I would advise you complete both the quests with guaranteed renown first (souls and 1k AP). Keep up to date with the Campaign quests, these will also give renown. After this check if any callings are going to give you renown. When you’ve done that I would advise you run LFR. When you are that far behind it should shower you with renown catch up on most kills. The closer you get to 40 the slower the catch up works.

I realise as a PvPer this probably sounds like hell but I can only advise from a PVE point of view the things that I know that work. PVP is listed as an activity but I am not familiar with their ins and outs. You may just find you need to catch up with the two weekly quests and your story campaign and then it will start giving you more in PVP again. But I do not know.

Disagree there mate, most random bgs I won even as alliance, epic bgs are a different story though. Although I’ve seen Alliance do pretty well lately in those when I queued as Horde.

do the callings and world boss. they’re guaranteed renown. Made this mage renown 39 for the mount with those.

I earned renown for random bgs wins after delivering weekly quest(rescue souls and anima reservoir).
Pretty fast, almost 1 renown each win

Apparently it was only random bgs that were the issue, probably because of not winning enough (lol), got 2 renown in 2 hc dungeons… weird and sad because I find random bgs pretty fun even though I’m getting 2 shot by everyone because I have low HP

Out of about 30 bgs between late evening and this morning I have won about 6

Already done but thank you :frowning:

Yeah but ya know, Alliance and winning random bgs

I fond the renown to be quite random… swapped covenant on my main a while back, and it took «forever» to get those renowns. Same time a guildie got 4 during a raidnight and i got 1. Its very random. M+ didnt give much either. In the end i was desperate enough to do callings for them :joy:

It feels like changing covenant also has an impact, the characters I have problems on regarding renown are chars that have changed covenant

From what I have gathered so far the catchup weakens the closer you get to 40
So it is probably ideal to delay doing the campaign quests that give guatanteed renown until near the end.
Theoretically one can get a massive jump in renown by running the Raid in LFR, Normal and heroic.
If that is not possible, do LFR, spam random dungeons, do callings, kill world bosses and do the weekly anima and souls quests.

Yeah I’ve been doing the weekly quests, the world boss and did a few LFR bosses as well today, but 0 renown from those, tried a few dungeons, had some luck for 2 dungeons then went on a streak of 0 renown again, I do have to say this system is terrible and is extremely unfun

Systems that reward randomly are always against the benefit of the player

Shouldn’t be that hard no. Got nenown 0-40 in 4 days on my latest alt. Like people above said got showered with it and 100% a renown every dungeon I did till about the 30 mark, then it slowed down abit.
