ZM gear scales all the way up to 252. That of course after you done the research to the fullest.
Doing a long quest chain for a full transmog set … How is that bad? If you didn’t play content while it was current, this is the case for all expansions. I don’t see how SL should be any different.
With the blue 252 catch up gear, all of this should be easy game. And even easier at lvl 70. Might be time consuming, and maybe you’ll need more than a week for some of the stuff you want. That simply because you also need anima and rep to buy some of it.
Be happy you can still access it. We all had to put effort in. Why shouldn’t late comers?

Isn’t that why to play? To actually collect if that’s what you like to do?
To show up to have everything the next day is not playing the game. And if that is all there is left of WoW, it’s better off dead.
