Just want to get a sense of community feedback on this, but do people actually like the current reputation system?
I’m used to having the old systems, where you’d start at neutral, and work yourself up through the levels by either killing the mobs, and doing the daily quests for the respective factions.
This new system feels more like a slog to me.
Now before you reply, the previous systems were like that as well, but having these 20+ levels per faction feels way more of a chore to me than the old system.
Or am i just imagining things, and it takes the same amount of time & effort?
If 0 to 1000 is “neutral” and then 1000-5000 is honoured (or whatever) and you change it to every 2500 points gives you a renown level then nothing has changed.
I don’t see it as any more or less of a chore (but its still a chore).
Reputations aren’t born equal, even if they have the same amount to exalted they don’t necessarily have the same gains. Some reputations have storylines that get you half or even all the way to revered and then you have to grind from there, others start the grind at friendly.
The amount of daily quest you get, how annoying they are, and how much rep you are rewarded also varies.
My issue with reputations isn’t how long it takes to max them out.
My issue is how limited the options are to max them out.
I’d love for Blizzard to bring back the original tabards, and let us earn very small amounts of reputation by doing literally anything: M+, raids, professions, open world content, old content, battlegrounds, arenas, pet battles, dragon races…
Instead of being locked to grinding world quests 24/7.
I liked when I could set my xp bar to be the rep bar for a certain faction and do their dailies every day for a few weeks / months (it varied depending on the faction but was rarely longer than 2 months) and ding exalted.
Now you just earn the rep more or less passively by just doing the weekly quests / events and you reach Max Renown 6 months or a year later, Dragonscale Expedition took me ages as I couldn’t do the races, banners or mountain climbing so it wsa really only Cataloging WQs (why did they not have an Event like Siege or Feast?).
I quite liked setting a goal (reach Exalted with…) and then was satisfied when I achieved this 6 weeks later.
I also dislike all these unlocks, 90% of which I don’t even know what they are, such as these hunting talents / customisations in ohanrahan plains. I am not interested enough to go read a guide about them, I’ll just stick to not knowing / caring about them.
I wish they’d concentrate on telling an interesting and more importantly a coherent story rather than these mini upgrade systems.
I prefered the old rep system over renown but to be honest that’s probaly more down to the fact i’ve played since launch and i’m just used to the old system.
Renown does have benefits in a way i guess as there are more stages to it meaning you can unlock rewards more often than the stages of old reps. The thing that i really don’t like in DF is that even when you get the renown to buy an item from the QM you have to have silly mats to buy stuff (3 of some item) rather than just being able to buy with gold like we used to. We shouldn’t have to farm rep to unlock a reward then farm mats to purchase said reward.
I think a nice part of it is the sort of branching content paths, the more rep you get the more feature you unlock, more side activities, more stuff you can buy, more things you can interact with etc
The old system is fine, but it’s like every rep tier you get 2 more dailies, then you just kill and collect until exalted, buy everything you need and never come back
The renown system feels more like the pandaria farm, i.e you get more out the more you put in and it’s not dead at exalted, in fact at exalted many of the systems become more interesting to interact with than they were at low rep, which is good design.
In the current system i will never reach max, while i had no issue to do it in previous expansions. I don’t know what the reason is. This also means i will not see the full story in this expansion since the story is tied to renown. I 100% prefer previous system.
I remember back in WOD when blizzard gave us faction rep before the patch release and you could kill many adds to achieve the rep and today they nerf the rep since its become the content sad times.
They should grow a spine and let us achieve stuff instead of letting us repeat the same things over and over for 4 weeks more to grab a sub from people.
In reality, it doesn’t add any value to the game, but I think the difference is in psychology of the people. To not make people lose the will when farming 21k from rev-exalted, they instead give you a little biscuit every 2.5k rep, to keep you going on and on with a smile on your face, instead of dread on your face.
I’m inclined then to say that the new system has the opposite effect for me.
It’s less aluring to me to put in the effort because I simply don’t see the end of the tunnel with these 30 levels.
It’s more like, “Oh congrats you reached level 9 on the reputation”
And my brain is, “Yeah bro, and there’s another 21 levels to go”
I’m having a hard time understanding how this is any different than the old system? Only difference being that now you say ‘‘Oh, 21 levels to go’’, but with the old system you would say ‘‘Oh, 15k more rep to grind out’’.
The 21k reputation with constant increments and seeing that bar reach its end feels better than seeing 30 levels with rewards and progress that’s almost invisible.
The only time I know I made some kind of reputation progress is because I get that big popup on the screen, and then need to go talk to some NPC somewhere to do a reward quest.
Outside the fact that this takes away from the constant flow of gameplay, it just feels weird to me.
Yes, I much prefer this system. It is sort of the same but it feels faster to me, or perhaps it is just the hitting a number more often gives me more dopamine than the old system. There is also catch-up implemented and account bound unlocks. I despair farming old reps. I do miss the tabards, though.
I find the current renown good. I prefer it because I hit the goal to each level faster and the reputation experience is always the same between the levels.
If I’m 100% honest, I’m not seeing a single logical piece of information from you. All I see, is that you’re sticking to something old, just for the sake of sticking to something old. Nothing wrong with that, so don’t get defensive or something.
Arguments you provided why you prefer the old system vs the new, are pretty dumb, with all due respect.
