I have a question regarding new features for World of Warcraft going further.
Has anyone on the development team or in the community ever thought about adding native support for an RP profile system, perhaps look at the most popular addon every RP realm uses, TRP/TRP extended?
Much like bringing in the IO rating system for mythic+, adding such features for RP (perhaps RP realm specific) would acknowledge the RP community in a postive way and I think it would benefit from the loss of the RP realm population during Shadowlands and attract both old and new players to these realms.
RP remains a major type of content you can do in this game and I think it is about time we receive some focus on giving those players support and additions to their choice of content. Much like how Blizzard added the IO rating system for M+, I believe roleplayers deserve to have an addition of native RP character profiles or perhaps other forms of RP specific features.
Any changes like that would fit DF very well, since UI overhaul is big part of the expansion. Sadly I don’t think devs have anything prepared regarding RP changes on such scale. We do see various “fake magic” scrolls, and other small changes good for RP, but entire new profile system? Kind of late for that.
I hope I’m wrong, though! WoW really needs more RP support.
Doesn’t even need to be realm specific they could add a on/off toggle for it in the interface/social options.
I’d really like them to put TRP/TRP extended into the game properly as it would make it a lot easier for them to actually moderate the content of the profiles too.
While I agree that the RP community is extremely underrepresented and an ingame option like RP3 would be great, thinking about the amount of “degenarcy” it would enable…
I’m not so sure that it would be a great idea. I don’t even need to mention Goldshire and everyone knows what I’m talking about.
I think it’s unlikely for WoW to have a surge in the number of ERPers if that’s what you mean, as they have another MMO for it. The numbers you see in Goldshire will stay and grow/diminish at a stable rate in relative to the overall number of RPers.
I think it is unfair to give “what could be” the win here and just allow the good parts to shine and shine more.
Providing support and content for the people that are going to make use of it well, which will happen, will be the goal. Of course there are going to be more people making bad use out of it, but that’s natural. That always happens, but to not do anything at all in fear of it? No, let’s try to take good steps to a better future!
I believe FF14 has TRP-like features built in, and it absolutely encourages everyone to have some sort of character concept as they play. I think it would be very healthy for WoW to actually incorporate the same.
There is nothing wrong with dreaming up a small backstory and identity for your character beyond “this is my avatar in a video game”. Creativity is good, and we should encourage it
