How can I contact a community manager to see if it is acceptable to post a request for 3-5 participants for a psychology research project on player ethics/values on WoW?
Post it, if it’s not acceptable they will remove it.
I’ve seen so many people post questionnaires about this kind of thing, most of them have loaded questions that cause a bias on the answer, and no “don’t know” options.
Try posting it in the off-topic section:
These things are posted all the time, just make sure the surveys do not ask you to list personal details. I think that can be abit frowned upon.
Thank you Dottie and Galander for your advise!
Needed: 3-5 participants for a psychology research on perceptions of right and wrong in WoW and how closely they are to your views of right and wrong offline. Must be 18 years of age or older.
In more detail:
I am looking for 3-5 participants for a psychology research I am doing on the ethical systems and moral values expressed by players in WoW, how these reflect their moral values in real life, and whether or not they experience feelings of conflict by any perceived differences between their online and real life behaviour. I have been playing WoW off-and-on since TBC and would like to combine my interests in psychology and playing WoW.
If someone decides to participate, I will ask them to talk about their experiences of playing WoW. I will be particularly interested to understand their avatar choice and how this may reflect their sense of values, and whether or not they feel that their personal ethical values are reflected more clearly in their actions in the game or in real life. The interview will take less than an hour, but it can be spaced out a bit more if done through email or text chat. If we agree to conduct the interview through email or text chat online, I will use the text for data analysis. If we agree to conduct the interview through Skype, I will ask their permission to record our conversation which I will subsequently transcribe and analyse.
All information that is collected during the course of the research will be kept strictly confidential and will be stored securely on a password protected computer. If the interview is conducted verbally, after the written transcript has been produced the audio recording will be destroyed. Any information about an individual which is used will have their personal details removed so that they cannot be identified from it. Similarly, any details which would make it possible for them to be identified, will be changed or omitted. All data will be stored, analysed and reported in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018. Data will be retained for a maximum of 3 years in the event that any publications should arise from it. Thereafter all data will be destroyed securely.
If you think you would be willing to participate in the research, please email me at d.goodey@rgu.ac.uk or respond to this post and I can send you the participant information sheet. If you are still interested after reading the full information, then I will send you a consent form and we can arrange the interview according to your availability.
Thank you for your interest!
