Ive parked this character 19/20 bars to level 56 for possibly a month, and I just noticed after leveling up to 56 that I only had around 11 bars of rested?! I think I wondered why I ran short of rested quickly earlier on another character. Can someone confirm this? I cant (no relevant selection) open GM ticket for this in-game issue.

Afaik rested XP stacks up to two levels of bonus xp, which can be affected by heirloom sets. You get more in rested xp zones but a full month should’ve gotten you more than merely 1 level iirc

The max we can get now is 150% rested XP which is about 2 complete levels worth i think (i could be wrong but that’s the numbers i am seeing on my alts)

Once you have expanded your toolbar, your Experience Bar will be divided into 20 sections. One section of the expanded bar is called a bubble. A bubble is worth 5% of a Level. Keep in mind that each section on the default Experience Bar is worth 2 bubbles if you choose to use that.

Rate of Acquisition

Rested Experience accrues at a rate of 5%, or 1 bubble, for every 8 hours of rest that your character takes. The maximum Rested Experience that you can accrue is 30 bubbles - which adds up to 150%. That means that you can accrue a level and a half’s worth of Rested Experience for taking a break for 10 days. You will still accrue Rested Experience while logged out even if you are not at a Rest Area, but at a much slower rate. You will accrue one bubble every 32 hours if you are logged off in a non-Rest area.

Rested Experience is not account wide, so you can play a different character without compromising your other characters’ Rested status.

It’s always been better to logout - esp. for an extended time - somewhere you have a very high Reputation with, as Rested builds quicker.
If that’s essentially covered by what @Schmusedecke linked, then apologies…

If that link was correct, you should have hit the rested XP cap in ~10 days, I think, that is if the character was at an inn. Luckily it doesn’t matter much, since most of your xp comes from doing quests anyways, unlike in classic where it matters to speed up your leveling as much as possible.

I think rested in ‘new content’ takes longer to acquire. Like maybe 1/3 of a bar per day. That’s what its seemed like for me anyway. The good news is, because leveling is so quick and easy, you dont actually need rested exp anyway.

Which is actually slightly more than stated in the link that Schmu posted which would be 1/3 of a bar in 2 days if you log off in an inn or similar.

20 quid says you rested him at the theatre of pain inn in maldraxus.
Ive noticed you dont get rested under the tent. You can log out immediately, meaning it is supposed to be a resting place but after a few times ive noticed it doesnt award rested time. Reported it months ago, still the same.
Theres an inn north of there, um cant remember the name, that works. Its a FP, so youll find the inn near it.

Of note, though… WHERE you log out is the most important; randomly logging out where you have to “wait 20s” (for the server/Realm to gather in-game location/character state data) is never the best idea; use said 20s to HS to somewhere where you are “Rested”.

The data mentioned above is likely quite old as we no longer have 20 Bubbles (as they put, never heard them refered as that before). We now have 10 bubbles (bars, pips, sections) per level, so each one is 10% (obviously) rather than the 5% menioned.
But I think we still cap out at one and a half levels of rested. I assume we acquire it at the same xp rate though as in 5% (half a buuble) for 8 eights in a rested inn.

Even at max level I like to check for the zzz on my character before logging out, force of habit.

Personally all my toons hs are in org. It doesnt take long to get from Org to wherever i want when i next log on, so if ill just hearth* and log out.

If youre levelling a few toons rotate them and get 150% xp in no time - if you really want but i dont pay much mind to rested xp as others have said levelling doesnt take long nowadays

Using DMF and draught of ten lands dramatically outweighs rested xp
