Resto shaman is basic!

If you play resto right now, you probably play the same way you did in classic. Chain heal, healing wave and lesser healing wave with overload.

You don’t use healing rain, because it shared a rune slot with overload.

You don’t play earth shield because it shares a rune slot with shamanistic rage and you need the mana.

You can play ancestral awakening but…it’s so bland and useless you might as well not use it (and I don’t, decoy totem is more useful in gnomer)

No riptide, no earth shield, no living weapon, we don’t use any new abilities at any point except shamanistic rage for mana and overload proccs for the extra heal on basic spells.

I understand that enhancement is your favourite child and all, but all other healers have new spells that they actually use, we…don’t. Same rotations, same spells…

I suggest you switch the earthield/healing rain rune to a less competitive slot so we can press that ONE new SoD button…

I support this. Please make it happen.

Holy smokes, never thought I’d see anyone say that. What a time to be alive.

Resto Shaman need love for sure. Riptide should be logical move and they already buffed earth shield stack. I would like to see full mail geared resto and see how it goes vs melees. If they taking too much melee dmg or is it fine. Without riptide you are hardly casting anything if melee sit on you

I didn’t want to get into the PvP topic at all. Since we hard cast all healing spells I specc elemental between raids so when a spell goes through there’s at least the satisfaction of lava burst erasing whatever lies before me.

I understand lvl 40 has boundaries of course and if they’ll introduce riptide later that’s fine too, but two phases in and no resto shaman can use earth shield…that’s just a failure in my book

Thanks for posting this dude, I also made a similar post.
It’s actually kinda painful to heal since all other healing classes have instant aoe / single target healing abilities but we kinda got completely left out.
I find it kinda annoying to heal the raid due to constant movement around the arenas & pushbacks

I think Healing Rain is actually stronger than Overload for pve healing, it does so much consistent healing, to ignore, and keeps Ancestral Healing almost always up on tanks.

But that is the only point I would disagree with you.

Shamanistic Rage does indeed provide so much mana that you can’t ignore it. Maybe when everyone will be geared and fights will be quicker we might take the new 1 minute Ancestral Guidance to do some damage.

I also play resto in pvp and I gotta say the performance is a bit tragic compared to priests. They have such a strong kit of abilities. They require less peeling and now they even have dispersion that is such a “get out of jail free card” while shamans have to stand there and cast their 5 second heal if you have homunculi or a hunter pet or another melee on you. I am aware that it is not just shaman healers looking weak in pvp compared to priests but as it is right now resto shamans have no way to CC/peel for themselves, even for a few seconds.

I would add to your suggestions this:

  • Add Lesser Healing Wave to Overload, this spell is barely meaningful in PvP right now as a healer. It does so little healing compared to the damage flying around that I don’t see why it has to be singled out to not receive benefit from Overload, It is the only “Oh s*it” heal we have aside from Nature Swiftness and it costs too much mana for not fulfilling the role it once used to do well.

  • Rework Ancestral Awakening because this rune is dead on arrival right now. We have low crit% for it to be a meaningful increase compared to the utility of Decoy Totem or the must have Spirit of the Alpha.

  • Ideally(but I know this is a 0.0…1% chance to happen) make power surge work more reliably. Preferably make it work like Maelstrom weapon where it receives stacks from flame shock application and ticks. On 6 stacks you get your instant LB, CL but with 3 stacks you can cast the instant Chain Heal. This way degenerate spikes of burst in pvp are less frequent(back to back instant lava bursts…) and as a healer you can time it to get some burst AoE healing through Chain Heal and maybe rely less on Healing rain.

  • Add riptide asap.

There are more changes that could be made but this post is long enough and sadly Blizzard does seem to pay attention to resto way less than enhancement, the changes for 28 February were really surprising and a start, hope it doesn’t end there for another 2 phases or something.

Good points, any of those things would help.

I will also try healing rain next raid since you mentioned the interaction with AH good idea. I used it in BFD but thought double chain heals would be sweeter now but chain heal in ten men raids isn’t really that great.

I also think this post is great!
Honestly just go Way of Earth in PvP, makes you really tanky but you still struggle like mad when melees / pets train you.
I think Healing Rain and Overload are just better for different fights in all honesty.
I think the bread and butter change would simply to make Riptide available to us, both for PvP and PvE and hopefully they will add it in the next phase!
I will try the Earth Shield buffs in tomorrows raid to see how it feels, really just sucks to lose the oh so important Shamanistic Rage.
