Resto Shaman playstile. Help!

Good morning everyone.

Sorry if I’m writing with the wrong character, but my shaman character met a bad end :wastebasket:

I started leveling the restoration shaman two days ago. I loved it, until my first dungeons.
As soon as I started doing them, my enjoyment dropped.
I don’t understand HOW the shaman works. I start by preventing damage on the tank with earth shield. Then I use riptide and chain heal when multiple people are taking damage. All this when the players are at 90% health, but despite everything, details doesn’t go up, it doesn’t show me the healing.
Then I read what the shaman mastery does and started another dungeon. But here too, waiting for the group to take more damage to heal more, the group members were healing themselves. I waited for the tank to reach 50% health to use healing surge, but he healed first and then my “wasted” heal arrived, obviously. Then they kicked me out of the group, and rightly so. I would have done the same.
I deleted my shaman character and continued with the druid.

I don’t know if I’ll ever get the shaman back, but could you explain to me how the shaman works and where I went wrong? :face_holding_back_tears:

You didn’t go wrong, some leveling content is really easy so you only really get to discover healing properly in harder content.

Undelete it and try it at max level, its quite fun.

Yes, I restored it immediately after writing the post. And here it is.

The dungeons I performed poorly in were the TBC ones. I regretted deleting it, so I restored it and changed the leveling zone. I set it to Dragonflight and immediately started a dungeon.

Well, things went differently :blush: thankfully!
And I realized the problem wasn’t me, but the low-level dungeons.

Mastery is more of a ‘’ Ah nice, I will heal more when someone drops low ‘’ than a ‘’ I am going to wait until people are low to heal them ‘’ thing.

Just heal people, keep your earth shield up, riptides flowing. And cast your big heals when people need it.
As for why your details won’t show much, it could be that there is a level 70 in your group, and if they are only self healing themselves for 5% of their health, that’s still more healing than that you can do at level 39.
