Ret pala weapon

Hey all

I just dinged my pala 60 this week and was wondering about something.
I am mainly doing pvp content om him (retribution), but what is the benefit of using a 2 hander compared to 1-hander and shield?
Seems all abilities are diffined by a set amount of holy or physical dmg.
And nothing gained or lost from weapon used.

Can someone explain to me (a paladin noob) why I would go for a big 2-hander compared to 1-hand and shield for my retribution paladin?

Two-handers deal more damage.

Can’t use half of your abilities without a 2h equipped.
