So for those of you, who don’t use Discord… it’s this little program for chatting… I’d highly recommend it.

Anyway, it seems the Paladin discord that many use for conversation, theorycrafting and all things Paladin… well lets just say the moderator(s) there have had a little tantrum because Ret Paladins are not as OP as they would like them to be this season. So they’re taking it out on the community they have there on that Discord.

We’ve decided to temporarily close the ⁠ret-questions and ⁠ret-general channels until Retribution is appropriately tuned. Retribution has been left behind and ignored this season, so since Blizzard has effectively been communicating to us that we should not be playing this spec, we’re now following their lead. If you would like to voice your frustrations about this, please post in ⁠general-chat-off-topic and not in Holy or Prot channels.

What exactly is the problem?

Damage, especially single target. Ret was doing great at the end of the last season, but the compensatory buffs for the Divine Hammer nerf were not enough to let us keep competing with all the specs that received 20% damage buffs from reworks this season. Ret is currently one of the worst performing specs statistically in Manaforge Omega logs, and this gap will only widen as other specs gain more from their new tier sets. Even though Ret was clearly underperforming at the start of this patch, both in sims and in actual raid performance, specs that were already outperforming us got damage buffs and we got ignored. This has become a pattern almost every tier, where we start out undertuned and don’t get adequate buffs in the first few weeks, and only begin improving months into the tier when we finally get enough successive 3% overall buffs.

Herald of the Sun has also been ignored this whole expansion, at least for Retribution. Based on sims, the Herald set bonus is not only the worst DPS set in the game, but is worth roughly half the amount of the next worst, across any DPS Hero talent. Holy has had many buffs to Herald’s effects that were not applied for Retribution, like Second Sunrise’s proc chance being 100% for Holy vs 20% for Ret, or the current 4set bonus buffing spenders by 30% for Holy vs 15% for Ret. Herald also still has multiple game breaking bugs with its main ability and tier set, where Radiant Glory procs reset the duration of existing Dawnlights, and the new set’s Solar Wrath procs randomly remove Sun’s Avatar. This isn’t an exhaustive list of issues, but these are the ones that could realistically be easily addressed in a short timeframe. We know this is inconvenient for people wanting to find information, but we think this is a better approach than a ping. In the meantime, pins in ⁠ret-questions, information in ⁠ret-faq, and online guides should have the information you’re looking for in almost all cases.

If you want to complain about these channels being closed, post in ⁠general-chat-off-topic.
If you want to talk about Retribution, post in ⁠buff-ret-post-toes.

We planned to use ⁠general-chat-off-topic as a replacement channel, but influx from other servers/websites has been too much for that to work. We’re keeping these channels closed for now symbolically, but are adding a new channel that is effectively identical to ⁠ret-questions. We initially made this decision in order to bring attention to how undertuned Ret currently is, and it definitely brought more than we expected. Sorry if you think we’re being cringe or throwing a fit, but we genuinely just want to have a spec that performs at a similar level to other classes.

Just want to point out, they’re not an official Blizzard discord!

I mean, that should be obvious. At best they are associated with wowhead since some (or even most idc) of the class discord mods write the guides for wowhead and are being paid by wowhead for it.

Other than that: The ret discord is getting heavily ridiculed by all other discords currently. Even the windwalkers are mocking the discord atm.

This seems counter productive because surely they all want to get together and rage about how bad their spec is. Now they can’t do that in the one place they should be able to.

I think its important topic what you bring in our attention if they are able to affect game tuning with this type methods. Retri has been completely overtuned and op in pvp since its rework and dodged every nerf in this xpac aswel on s1-3, but blizzard have been nerfing every other class but letting buffs for retri even in pvp which is making pvp community angry about the overtuning of retribution and for good reason. At worst I witnessed 7 retributions in same blitz and the matchmaking in soloq is trying to avoid same specs yet theres 7 cause everyone is abusing the broken state of it and yet they are not nerfing it and more people are getting angry of the class balance and naturally are feeling cheated watching even non meta classes gaining nerfs in patch notes yet retri staying unnerfed pvp even on its broken state.

Idk what is this favoritism of retri or this horrid tuning for rated pvp but its become obnoxious considering there is supposed to be rated were we compete and yet some specs are allowed to use steroids or cheat faster to the finish line while the rest have to work harder against it. All sense of fairness is thrown out of window with this tuning I’m witnessing. I had to witness even pre nerf twice on off season on non meta class like locks but retri is going unnerfed to live even being broken. Way too bad class balancing for a rated game, everyone could just play retri in pvp now then and gain things free it seems.

Between Paladins being deliberately designed as a newcomer-friendly class, and also being the most popular class in the game, there’s a certain stereotype that fosters.

And it’s always hilarious to see when Paladin players behave like entitled dumbasses.

It validates the stereotype.

I still think the craziest Paladin time was early WotLK, I think, when Blizzard nerfed their ability to two-shot anyone whilst being immune or something silly like that, and in response the entire Paladin forum was filled with ASCII middle fingers. For not being able to two-shot players in PvP whilst being immune to damage.

Chris Metzen plays a Paladin! And you just know he’s a total n00b at the game. Because he plays a Paladin.

Somehow I’m not even least surprised reading current retribution mains comments in na/eu trying gaslight other classes needing nerfs pvp or just blatant denying their broken state for past 3 seasons when its evident in public statistics for anyone to see with a working internet browser that theyre overtuned even for a blind man to see, usually I dont want to hate anything based of class they play but I’m starting to get enough of this whole attitude of them and this retri favoritism since retocalypse broke the spec for pvp :man_facepalming:

I like to play powerful specs too and I do play 8 classes after all and multiclass but I’m not somebody who denies it when something is strong, I say it straight that “lol this thing hits 8 mil black arrow with zero setup and just select target and press ability, this is broken and dumb” I look around and ppl still trying deny something like retri and mm being broken. Would think it would be for everyones benefit if the game were balanced better or if their “competitive” modes had bit more sense of fairness being “competitive” if there were some actual competitively logical balancing made instead of overtune certain specs and leave them like that for rest of seasons. It even makes people quit season if they dont multiclass and their mains become too bad, its actually really bad on big picture to have this bad tuning.

no need to get nerfed or buffed for now.

Current what I read from pvp is people saying they take 1.8 for tmog and will just quit the season. Large majority doesnt seem to care play third season row against overtuned retri, ppl are starting have enough of blizzards bad tuning. They really should nerf it already PvP or we are going to have really dead season with just few dozen retributions playing it and everyone else not wishing to lose their rating or fight against something that is 3x stronger than their specs. I’m going to play whole season cause I paid for the expansion and I’m going to be vocal about things that need tuning on it too cause I literally paid for this and well because I can express myself just like these palas and their discords did.

Well they forced the 5% BUFF so we can expect more actions like this in future.

I wish Hunter discord woudl do the same -_- i want that extra % aross board too ;/

Do have to wonder though. Some specs lay in the mud and durt for patches if not expansions and nobody bats an eye about them. But when precious paladins are not mommy’s favourite child anymore then they throw a huge “the end is near” tantrum.

It’s absolutely tilting to say the least. I was glad to see atleast some long time neglected finally gain something small or even attempts of make them bit more competitive. The neglect of some specs is unreal considering theres suppose to be rated element on both pve and pvp.

I really hope its just incompetence or lack of care and that its not intentional and that there is not some spec favoritism why retri would remain most broken spec for 3 seasons long PvP while all else even less stronger non meta specs are being nerfed. We are paying to play this game and not so that some people tuning it can have fun with their chosen specs or whatever could be reason for this bad class bancing, it’s hard to understand what could be reason for it when its so evident that all can see something being 3x stronger and more played than other classes or specs and yet its not receiving nerfs for 3 seasons now. My disappointment honestly if this is intentional for some greed motivated reason.
