Ret Paladin - Mining/Engineering (WOW Retail)

I know this topic/conversation has come up in the past - but I wanted to revive it for the current model we play.

Engineering for a RET Paladin…

Thoughts?

Has It? I don’t get it. Is there something particularly special about ret with engi?

It came up on conversation some time back in 2018/2019 and some in the Classic forums somewhere (from a previous Google search, highlighting Icyveins, WOW Classic, Reddit (ugh) and other WOW sites).

My question was asking what people thought about using Engineering on a Retribution Paladin - with the current World of Warcraft model/culture/playstyles…

The additional speed from the belt enchant never gets old though I’m pretty sure shares CD with dmg pots.

Additional bonus: goggles.

TLDR: There is nothing wrong and nothing right with going Mining/Engineering for Retribution Paladin

Long post: There is no benefit in using a specific profession in retail because every perk is no longer exclusive to the character with the profession. Everything you can craft as Engineer, I can also purchase off the AH or get through a public craft order. You might as well go Mining/Herbalism or Skinning/Tailoring to just gather money instead of spending them crafting stuff.

Engineering was cool during wrath when you had enchants for gloves that gave you different things. Now its another profession you can buy from the AH.
Glider? You can buy from AH.

If you want to benefit from stuff like wormhole generators, you need to be an engineer. Nitro boosts and similar tinkers are also great for old content or open world content.

I got a Paladin with Tailoring, just because.

You can play any class profession combo. There isnt really any min max justification for anybody currently. And even if there is for the 0.00001% (there isnt) then it also doesnt matter because one wont play at that level anyway. Nothings more annoying than someone trying to replicate some MDI nonsense or whatever (that stuff needs to be a reportable offense at this point. I really question the brain activity of a big chunk of the playerbase).

My original main (paladin) is still engineer. It is still has some pretty nice perks like the wormhole generator, shorter CD mailbox and two free repair bots (Jeeves and Reeves). The gnomish army knife res also still worjs, though that is not of much use on a hybrid who has res baseline already

Most unique traits they had has been phased out by now, for example having the exclusivity of an AH in current expansion capital. It still has those nice extras, and a free bank access with Jeeves.

Mining I did not go with though. I swapped it out to alchemy instead.

Ret with engineering is fine.

My main is my Tailor/Enchanter

This quote really reminded me of how cringe I was back in Cata where I changed Skinning to Jewelcrafting simply to switch from 80 crit rating to 81 primary stat, which at the time was like 0.2% boost at best. That was back when Recount was taking up most of my interface…
