Retail, what does it mean?

Ive seen unavoidable logical conflicts in how different ppl use the word “retail”, what does it mean precisely ? (and is it an abbreviation of something?)

And while were at it, what do the words “vanilla” and “classic” mean precisely ?

Retail = Shadowlands.
Vanilla = original 2004 WoW
Classic = vanilla WoW 2019 re-release, including The Burning Crusade and the forthcoming Wrath of the Lich King.

Aside from Relikk’s explanation :point_down:

From what i have seen, depending on where you are when the conflict is happening (WoW Classic Forum/Wotlk game or WoW General Forum/Shadowlands Game), Retail/Classic is often used as a way of invalidate what it written or wished for:

“Go back to retail, this is Classic”
“<-- Classic is that way”

I have mostly seen people use the word vanilla when they want to put weight to their thoughts by their long playtime and knowledge about gameplay

Classic is Vanilla
Retail is any latest expansion
Wotlk is golden bridge in between those two

sadly without dungeon finder wotlk is classic. :stuck_out_tongue:

If was between would have it :3 since vanilla have nothing and retail have LFR and dungeon finger :stuck_out_tongue:

vanilla is 2004/2005-2007
retail is current date.
The philosophy behind the game changed a lot in that time
It changed from do your best to we’ll hold your hand on site seeing tour.
