Retr Pala dps help

Greetings fellow Palas,

I need some help with my dps as I reached iLevel 370 and i dont see any improvement from the time I was in the 360s.

Raidbots simulates my dps as 16.426 which is the higher i can get based on the suggested gear, enhants, gems.

these are the stat weights Raidbot suggests:

Weapon DPS 11.50
Strength 2.04
Versatility 1.78
Mastery 1.72
Haste 1.70
Critical Strike 1.62

In the 360s, I used [Khor, Hammer of the Corrupted] weapon which was iLevel 355. The stat weights Weapon DPS was then at 10.25.

I got to iLevel370, because I got new loot [Khor, Hammer of the Corrupted] weapon at iLevel 385, and now the stat weights for Weapon DPS switch to 11+ (i dont understand why)

I am doing my rotation as perfect as I can, but I get outDPSed from 360 people in raids.

Not trying to be an !@#, but the bolded statement isn't really saying anything. For all we know you could be playing perfectly, or terribly.

Not sure if ret has any log-analyzer tools, but that might maybe help? I know mages are using WoW Analyzer, dunno what classes it supports other than mages and can't check since I'm at work atm.

Regarding the stat prio changes, I wouldn't concern myself with it all to much, just trust the simulations. I would take a little bit of caution regarding certain trinkets and/or azerite traits, but for pure stat values it should be the best source.

Hopefully this helps a little anyway
For the Azerite Traits I use the Azerite Power Weight addon, and I trust it since I overchecked if the traits are the best suggested ones for the retr pala.

For trinkets I know I am falling a little bit behind but they are ok enough to give me a decent damage output for now.

I started to think if my talents need be tweaked. The current talents I have are suggested by Raidbots as the max dps output, but I see other higher ranked palas use different talents, which when I simulate them I have a dps drop.

For Example, I use Inquisition, and other higher ranked Palas use Divine Purpose.
or I use Hammer of Wrath, and others use Blade of Wrath.
Okay, I checked one of your logs to see if I can find something that can help you improve on your DPS. I use your Taloc normal log as an example.

A few tidbits that stick out the most for me:

-You have two charger stacks but you aren't using them from what I noticed. Right at the start of the fight use your charger to get into melee range faster so you can start your rotation (Do note that if your tanks aren't on top of their game in getting to the boss as fast as you do the boss might smack you. If this constantly occurs you might want to open with Shield of Vengeance too.)

-Never use Wings until you are actually in melee range, and if you are using Inquisition always make sure that Inquisition will stay up for the full Wings duration. In the fight I checked you had only 35% uptime on Inquisition, which should be at or very near 100% in order to maximize its effectiveness. If you have trouble tracking your Inquisition duration I recommend either getting a weakaura to show it, or if not then swap to Divine Purpose for its ease of management.

-Righteous Verdict gives you a 6 second buff that increases your next Templar's Verdict damage. While it does not seem excessive this buff should be maintained for as long as it is possible. If you feel that you are struggling to keep the buff up swap over to Zeal. Raidbot might say that you lose DPS with it, but your damage in general will improve because Zeal works passively so you do not have to consciously pay attention to it.

-You seem to be wasting way too much holy power. Familiarize yourself with how many holy power your attacks are generating, or try to find an addon (like weakaura) to place your holy power stacks in clear view. If you see that your wake of ashes are going to come off of cooldown try to only build enough holy power to fire off a Templar's Verdict/Divine Storm and have 0-1 holy power right when the ability comes off from cooldown.

-I recommend a basic opening rotation to set your cooldowns up more effectively if you want to stay with Inquisition:
Start out with Blade of Justice>Judgment>Inquisition combo, which after use wings and then Wake of Ashes turned into a Templar's Verdict. Follow up with Execution Sentence to fire off another Templar's Verdict. By this time both Judgement and Blade of Justice should be coming off from cooldown. Try and refresh Inquisition when it drops to 13 seconds and lower, with 3 holy power if possible to not waste more GCD on having to constantly refresh it.

If you want to try out Divine Purpose, then you can start off with wings>Wake of Ashes and go from there. Be sure to cast wings BEFORE you use Wake of Ashes so it gets the damage boost as well.

-Whenever it is possible and you do not need it for survivability do your best to find situations where you can use Shield of Vengeance to boost your DPS. I think right now if used wisely SoV accounts for 3-5% of your DPS, which is massive.

-Familiarize yourself with fights and know when you should be using your cooldowns. A prime example is getting Blood Dispersal on Taloc, which you can nullify entirely with Divine Shield. I recommend only doing so if you get the debuff while your wings are running though, since the impact of losing out on a few seconds of wings duration is much more damaging than losing damage outside of it. This is where you can gain most of your DPS beside doing your rotation normally. On fights like Zek'voz you can hold your second Wake of Ashes for when the Silithids spawn and your group gathers them up, getting more out of it.

-Art of War proc (unless you have the Blade of Wrath talent) only stay up for 4 seconds before they are lost. Keep that in mind and plan around it.

-More passive talents like Blade of Wrath or Fires of Justice, Zeal and Divine Purpose are perfectly usable, and until you get your rotation management down correctly. The talents you mainly see are because they add an extra layer of complexity in exchange for slightly better damage output/to shift damage over to phases where it matters. Hammer of Wrath is used because it gives you extra burst during execute phases and during wings, but they aren't the most optimal for every boss. Take MOTHER for example where it is more worth using something other than Hammer of Wrath because the boss encounter ends when the boss reaches 10% HP, so you aren't getting maximum use out of HoW.

Do note that your rotation priority changes slightly depending on the combination of talents you use. Icy-veins have a section under retribution paladin which explains the most optimal rotations for you to take.

-When the opportunity presents itself try to shift some of your crit over into haste. As it stands right now you are getting crit from your re-origination array buff, which is nice, but haste would be more ideal.

-Use pre-potions. If you are an alchemist, or your guild has an alchemist who was playing during Legion ask him to make you a stack or two of Potion of Prolonged Power. The buff might seem minor, but getting 113 strength for 1 minute two times during the fight is nothing to sneeze at, and they are much cheaper to get than current burst potions. Use those only when you are familiar with the mechanics of a fight and all your group need to down the boss is just a little extra DPS.

-If you plan to use burst potions, use Bursting Blood for Single target situations, and Battle potion of Strength for AoE. The difference between the two are minor, but minor differences tend to add up in the long run.

I hope this helps clearing things up a bit. Try to always think about what mechanics are there in a bossfight and how can you handle them in a way that minimizes your downtime on a boss. If you do this and get familiar with your rotation/talent setup I am sure you will notice a marked improvement in your DPS numbers.
