Retribution aura

I literally only hear disappointment in the design of retribution aura from prominent community paladins, and I dislike it myself so might just be confirmation bias. Which is why I ask, what’s your opinion on this aura? Is the general community pleased with it, would you rather see something that boosts your allies, or do you have other ideas?

I’d rather see it gone and instead giving us actual and useful bonus. This kind of aura implies toxic gameplay, because as a paladin, I should be helping them, not letting them die so I can benefit from their wipe. It’s like : You should help your allies, but on the same time you should not.

Everyone, since this passive was introduced, is saying it shuold go.

Our damage should not be tuned around letting our group members die.

It’s aweful and should be removed finally.

i dont mind it. personally i never used to take it because of the auto attack reset bug. its a bit boring and passive but i think its ok to have some boring passive abilities for people who dont really play the spec that often

Without RA you’d have the problem that you could have so many paladins in a raid that not everyone could run a meaningful aura. Like this, when you have all the auras you want (Devotion and maybe Crusader), you can have “the rest” run Retribution.

As if it is. I prefer to think of it as group deaths sucking a tiny bit less, but they still suck.

Personally I can’t see my self useing it unless we are deliberately sacrificing someone. (Like on mythic ashvane)

Yeah big change. It will go from an useless never picked talent, to a semi useless never picked button, which was perfectly fine as passive.

I do feel the only reason they changed it is because people use to complain about the passive so much. I remember seeing so many posts on the forum asking blizzard to remove the passive or people claiming that the passive was the reason rets damage was low.

I didn’t agree with the arguments then and I don’t agree with them now. But I think we can all agree the aura is a bad addition and players would have preferred the passive

It’s rare that I feel the need to post on these forums, but I agree that Retrubution Aura does not promote a meaningful choice.

Make it a passive if it’s super important to class fantasy, but don’t make me choose to profit from a death of my party member.

That’s a great way to think about it! I still think the aura itself just feels bad in benefiting from the death of others, but the general design philosophy of an aura to use when all other auras are occupied is a great idea! Would love to see it redesigned in a way that boosts yourself while interacting with your allies without them dying, more like how the pvp talent Ultimate Retribution works. We are already pushed to help in the last moments before death (wog talent, loh) so this would play completely in line with that.

I hate that I benefit from my teammates deaths, ye it fits thematicly but its degenerate gameplay, do they tune around this as well? I hope not!

It seems Blizz wants ret to use degenerate gameplay to say that we’re fine.

In SL we can use sacrifice on the tank and Shield of Vengeance on us to pop it real good in case there isn’t any obvious “fire” at the start or across the encounter.

Fits tematically and i don’t hate it, but surely i’m not going to pick it as another option, especially after they gave us back sac across all spec.

“To protect and avenge” should be the new paladin discord motto, except we protect yes but with our current dmg we could not avenge anything.

How could you even behind to tune around something like this? Like how often do people die. Because in my experience it varies wildly

I suppose as a holy main I could just let people die but that feels counter productive

I guess i’ll become a God in LFR then because people die to the most stupid thing :smiley:

It’s terrible. It’s a funny passive we used to have that made little difference cause it couldn’t be counted on.

I wish they would just remove it or make it a passive again and re-introduce Sanctity aura so Ret’s have anything worthwhile to bring to groups.

I have seen that the Aura overwrites Avenging wrath? So if you have your wings up and a team mate dies it takes the wings away even if the wings last longer then the aura does. Thats bad design and should be taken away, all of it!

I only see myself using this in large scale battlegrounds. I don’t see this having any use in Raids, M+, and Arena. And it’s absolutely useless in solo content (questing, leveling, farming).

Auras as general are crap, WTF new ability oh gosh 3% passive dmg reduction…
You will almost never rotate your auras… coz they all sux
